Job Details:


To mentor youth with the aim of providing support, guidance, positive interaction, exposure to positive activities, opportunities to learn life skills and positive problem-solving skills through a strength-based trauma informed approach.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide weekly mentoring sessions, implementing social and emotional learning, life skills, and peer-to-peer mentoring.
  • Work as a team to help establish a trusting and dependable relationship that will lead youth on a positive path to success.
  • Assist youth to further develop life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, academic excellence, and moral values.
  • Enable and encourage positive decision-making, leading youth to take responsibility for their actions, to see their victims as people and to see value in themselves.
  • Demonstrate good character, emotional stability, and a responsible adult lifestyle.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Connect youth and families with needed and available community resources.
  • Provide referrals to youth, parents, and agencies as appropriate.
  • Maintain case note documentation and data collection.
  • Provide all required documentation in a timely manner, which may include youth follow-up, outcome evaluations, and youth contact sheets.
  • Maintain a heavy caseload.
  • Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and the professional code of ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work with at risk youth
  • Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, task-oriented, nonjudgmental and a clear sense of boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain respect for confidentiality involving both youth and fellow employees.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide own transportation.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • A High school diploma.
  • A minimum of two years experience in a similar position working with at-risk youth.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.

Required Pre-Employment screenings:

  • Criminal history check
  • Drug, and alcohol testing
  • Motor vehicle review (MVR)
