Mental Health Therapist

Location: Fayetteville, NC
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Thursday Full Days + Friday Morning Patient Care | Friday Afternoon Administrative Time

Compensation: Starting around $60,000 base salary, with opportunity to earn 35% of collections, whichever is higher

A well-established outpatient neurology and psychiatry practice is seeking a Mental Health Therapist to join its Fayetteville, NC clinical team. This role is ideal for a licensed therapist who wants to work in a collaborative, integrated behavioral health environment with strong internal referral support from psychiatric and neurology providers.

The therapist will provide comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, counseling, and other non-medical therapeutic interventions. The primary population is adults, though the practice also sees children, adolescents, couples, and families as clinically appropriate.

This is an on-site position with a mix of in-person and telehealth visits. While telehealth is a significant part of the broader psychiatric care model, therapists are expected to work from the office to support both virtual and in-person patient needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient therapy services to individuals, couples, and families.
• Conduct clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning.
• Deliver evidence-based counseling and therapeutic interventions.
• Collaborate closely with psychiatric providers, neurology providers, and clinical leadership.
• Support individualized treatment plans and coordinated care across disciplines.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Participate in care coordination for patients with behavioral health, psychiatric, neurological, or psychosocial needs.
• Support patients with stable outpatient behavioral health needs, including occasional higher-acuity situations in coordination with the on-site psychiatric medical team.
• Accommodate a mix of internally referred patients and external referrals.
• Maintain expected productivity for a full-time outpatient therapy caseload.

Patient Population

The majority of patients are adults receiving individual outpatient counseling. The practice also accommodates children, adolescents, couples, and family-based referrals when appropriate.

This is a stable outpatient population overall. Higher-acuity situations, including rare involuntary commitment concerns, are handled in coordination with the psychiatric medical team on-site.

Productivity Expectations

Full-time therapists are expected to provide approximately 36 hours of patient-facing therapy per week

The normal schedule structure is:

• Monday–Thursday: Four 1-hour therapy sessions per half day
• Friday Morning: Patient-facing therapy sessions
• Friday Afternoon: Administrative time

Required Qualifications

• Active or eligible North Carolina behavioral health license.
• Acceptable NC licenses include:
  • LCSW
  • LCSWA
  • LCMHC
  • LCMHCA
  • LMFT
  • LMFTA
• LCSW or LCSWA strongly preferred.
• Experience providing outpatient therapy services.
• Ability to work collaboratively with psychiatric and medical providers.
• Strong assessment, documentation, treatment planning, and patient engagement skills.
• Comfortable working with adult patients and open to seeing children, adolescents, couples, and families as needed.
• Ability to work on-site in Fayetteville, NC.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in an integrated behavioral health, psychiatry, neurology, or outpatient medical setting.
• Experience with adult individual therapy.
• Comfort supporting patients with anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, family stressors, and related outpatient behavioral health needs.
• Experience coordinating care with psychiatric prescribers or medical providers.
• Associate-level social work licensure may be considered where supervision is appropriate and available.

Compensation Structure

This is a W2 salaried position starting around $60,000 per year Therapists may also earn 35% of collections, whichever amount is higher.

Therapists are credentialed under insurance plans that are in-network with the practice.

Interview Process

Candidates can expect to meet with executive leadership, clinical leadership, and therapy leadership. Final candidates may also meet with the physician leadership team.
