Mental Health Therapist- Coverage Support
Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking a master’s level mental health clinician (licensed or license eligible) to work alongside the Primary Counselor team to provide cross-coverage for individual client caseloads and groups. This clinician will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Primary Counselor team to support clients from each of our recovery communities (CBT, DBT, Dual Diagnosis, and Cognition & First Episode of Psychosis and Social Integration) and on both the adult and adolescent campuses.
Scope:
To ensure that each client within the assigned caseload is sufficiently supported by Skyland Trail program services, offering coverage support for the Primary Counselor team. This role will offer coverage for individual caseload and group counselor responsibilities as needed. The role will provide coverage on both the adult and adolescent campuses. This clinician will be responsible for well-planned and coordinated therapeutic coverage of treatment services in collaboration with Primary Counselors.
Duties:
Coordinates with Primary Counselor or supervisor to ensure all aspects of coverage are well organized and executed. Coverage may be planned (due to vacations or other planned staff absences) or unplanned (emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances). The covering primary counselor will operate within the scope of the full time primary counselor as needed. This may include individual sessions, group coverage, family contact, treatment team meetings, and documentation, as well as other duties as assigned.
Ensures all admission documents are complete including information from referring facilities. Ensure all assessments (i.e.; psychosocial, activity therapy, ADL, nutrition, employment and educational, admissions, self-assessments, etc.) are completed such that the recovery plans may be completed in a timely manner.
Develops individualized recovery plans (complete with day treatment schedule) for caseload and revises as necessary with input of recovery team. Conducts individual sessions at least once per week with assigned caseload, also reviews clients’ treatment plans and documents progression towards recovery plan goals. Records all changes in status as necessary.
Participates in recovery team meetings and makes professional case presentation. Communicates recovery goals, wellness plans, expectations and opportunities for clients.
Conducts assigned groups and documents in electronic health record. Develop written curriculums for groups as necessary. Utilize curriculum resources to plan, facilitate and/or co-facilitate assigned groups.
Rotates through modality specific and/or other groups as assigned to provide relief to group leaders.
Provides planned coverage on a rotating basis for Primary Counselors to attend to documentation needs.
Provides coverage as needed for Independence Coaching sessions at Transitional Housing.
Provides skills coaching with clients when appropriate, either at the request of PC, other staff or client.
Conducts initial risk screening for clients in crisis or in need of additional support. Collaborates as needed with Crisis Clinician, Assistant Directors or Directors for additional assessment.
Participates in weekly meetings as assigned by direct supervisor. This may include weekly meetings for case consultation, and/or administrative purposes, as well as scheduled educational meetings with the entire team.
Participates in a variety of consultation team meetings as appropriate to assigned coverage tasks.
Works with recovery team to design wellness plans. Sets appropriate wellness plans for caseload as needed, and reports plan to the client, family and clinical staff.
Completes all duties assigned to Primary Counselor as needed when providing coverage.
Cross-trains at adolescent campus to provide coverage as needed. Participates in at least quarterly orientation/training on adolescent campus to stay current with policy and procedure across campuses.
Completes all documentation in accordance with agency guidelines. Complete progress report on each client and completes concurrent reviews for UR staff. Conducts reviews with MCO in UR staff and MD absence. Maintains contact with insurance companies as required by each managed care organization’s standards.
Maintains family contact as needed when covering a caseload; this may be verbal or written contact with families at a minimum of once every 2 weeks.
Participates in on-call rotation for a minimum of 4 weeks per year.
Collaborates with various team members on special projects such as curriculum development, chart audits, or administrative tasks as needed.
Practices ethically and complies with facility policies and accreditation standards (i.e., Joint Commission, HFRD, etc.)
Assists and guides clients to achieve the maximum level of independence, while functioning in the least restrictive environment.
Refers clients to appropriate services, internally and externally. Maintains contact with other service providers.
Potentially supervises master’s level intern(s) weekly as needed and have regular contact with school advisor.
Provides transportation for clients as needed.
Participates in continuing education program in specialty area.
Completes other duties as assigned.

QualificationsQualifications:
Master’s degree in related field (i.e., Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.). required
Eligible for license (provisional or full) required
Prior training/experience with clients diagnosed with psychiatric illness and co-occurring substance use disorders preferred
Prior experience in residential and partial hospitalization/day treatment setting for individuals with psychiatric illness required
DBT experience preferred
