Position Overview

Under general direction, serves as a Mental Health Recovery Support Specialist. Facilitates the enhancement of recovery-oriented services/service delivery in community mental health agencies and community hospitals. Develops and maintains contact/relationship with community mental health centers/agencies, for the purpose of enhancing recovery-oriented services/service delivery. Addresses, reviews, and resolves identified consumer and/or family issues and concerns related to the quality of care and services provided to consumers. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates consumer study/survey data, utilizing Microsoft Office Excel. Represents the “consumer voice” to community groups requesting information concerning mental health issues, wellness and recovery, the empowerment of consumers and families to recovery-oriented services. Provides expertise regarding consumer/family service needs and expectations to region community mental health agencies and hospitals. Serves as a member of the statewide Recovery Services Collaboration Team (RSCT).

Essential Functions

• Serves as a Mental Health Recovery Support Specialist (MHRSS).
• Develops and maintains contact/relationship with community mental health centers/agencies, for the purpose of enhancing recovery-oriented services/service delivery.
• Addresses, reviews, and resolves identified consumer and/or family issues and concerns related to the quality of care and services provided to consumers.
• Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates consumer study/survey data, utilizing Microsoft Office Excel.
• Represents the region’s “consumer voice” to community groups requesting information concerning mental health issues, wellness and recovery, the empowerment of consumers and families to recovery-oriented services.
• Provides expertise regarding consumer/family service needs and expectations to community mental health agencies and hospitals.
• Serves as a member of the statewide Recovery Services Collaboration Team (RSCT).
• Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a bachelor’s degree in one (1) of the social sciences or related area and two (2) years of experience performing peer support work within a mental health program setting.
• Must be a current or former consumer of mental health services, and willing to self-identify.
• Requires evidence of certification as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS).

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of professional experience providing peer support services and encouraging consumers to adopt wellness practices and goals.
• Two (2) years of professional experience communicating with mental health individuals/customers/patients about obstacles and successes of one’s own personal recovery.
• Two (2) years of professional experience representing patients and family members with external partner/providers on patient rights and responsibilities.
• Two (2) years of professional experience providing recovery-oriented practices and techniques, working with policies, procedures and regulations associated with patient rights, matters, care and support systems.

• Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
