Job Description

Connecting Families is seeking strong, trauma-informed Disability Support Workers to provide high-level care for clients with extremely complex behaviour and psychological needs.

This role requires workers who can remain calm under pressure, respond to challenging behaviours with care and control, and provide structured, consistent support. We are seeking resilient, mental health workers with proven experience supporting complex children and youth, especially those with extreme behavioural challenges.

We have two clients we are recruiting for – one female and one male client – at separate houses in Christies Beach. There may be flexibility to work with both or the client that you feel your experience aligns with the most.

Preferred Background as a Support Worker:

✔️ Child & Youth Work

✔️ Mental Health & Crisis Management (i.e. drug and alcohol addiction)

✔️ Trauma-Informed Disability Support

✔️ Minimum 2 years consistent work experience in Community Services (Disability, Aged Care, Mental Health, Nursing)

Key Traits and Skills:

✔️ Calm and assertive in high-stress environments

✔️ Experienced in de-escalating aggressive and sexualized behaviours

✔️ Able to mentor youth with attachment issues and trauma

✔️ Committed to clear boundaries, respectful communication, and safety

✔️ Physically fit and mentally resilient

  • Sexually Inappropriate Behaviour (verbal and physical)
  • Homicidal Ideations, Severe Attachment Disorder
  • Drug Usage
  • Absconding & Property Damage
  • Physical & Verbal Aggression
  • Threats, Intimidation & Suicidal Ideation

Medical Diagnoses:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • Reactive Attachment Disorder
  • Trauma-Related Behavioural Disorder
  • Sensory Processing Disorder
  • Brain Disorder (Frontal Lobe Damage)
  • Shunts

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Community Services, Youth Work, or Mental Health
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Employee Working with Children Check (South Australia)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Valid South Australian Driver’s License & Reliable, Insured Vehicle
