Do you have a genuine passion for mental health and supporting people through moments that matter?

This is a meaningful opportunity to join a small, dedicated team delivering critical front-line support to our community.

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and capable telephone-based Mental Health Clinician who is experienced in conducting mental health and risk assessments, and confident engaging with people across all ages and levels of need.

In this role, you will be a calm, trusted voice for callers navigating complex and often vulnerable situations. You will use your clinical judgement, intuition and empathy to understand each person’s unique circumstances and connect them to the most appropriate support.

You will thrive in this role if you are:

  • Proactive and emotionally intelligent
  • Comfortable working autonomously while staying connected to a team
  • Able to hold space for complexity, risk, and uncertainty
  • Grounded, calm, and clear in your communication

What you’ll be doing

As part of the Medicare Mental Health team, you will:

  • Conduct mental health and risk assessments via telephone
  • Support individuals, families, and carers to navigate the mental health system
  • Connect people to appropriate services, including those commissioned by EMPHN and the broader sector
  • Liaise with service providers, clinicians, and community supports
  • Use your sector knowledge to ensure people receive timely, appropriate care

This is a navigation-focused role, requiring strong understanding of the mental health service system and the ability to make informed, person-centred decisions.

About you

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in mental health assessment and risk assessment (telephone or telehealth experience highly regarded)
  • Strong working knowledge of the mental health and/or alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector
  • The ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including those presenting with complex needs
  • Confidence using telehealth platforms and secure communication tools
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work as part of a small, supportive team

Qualifications
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Public Health, Health Promotion, Sociology or similar (with current registration/membership where applicable).

Working with us

  • Part-time role (0.6–0.8 FTE)
  • Fixed-term contract until 30 June 2027
  • Standard office hours, Monday to Friday
  • Primarily work from home, with occasional in-person team and organisational events

Our team is well-supported, connected, and committed to maintaining both high-quality service delivery and personal wellbeing.
