About the Role

At Brophy and headspace, we believe young people are resourceful, resilient and full of potential. Our Mental Health Clinician plays a key role in supporting young people to strengthen their wellbeing, navigate challenges and access the right support at the right time.

Working within the headspace stepped care model, the role delivers high quality, evidence-informed mental health interventions to young people experiencing a range of mental health presentations. Through creative, youth-friendly and culturally responsive practice, the clinician builds authentic therapeutic relationships and supports young people, families and carers in ways that are strengths-based, inclusive and empowering.

The role works both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to clinical supervision, continuous improvement, service innovation and the development of emerging practitioners. The clinician also builds strong partnerships with community stakeholders to strengthen integrated care pathways and improve outcomes for young people across the region.

Do your skills include:

• A sound knowledge of the common mental health issues faced by young people, with demonstrated experience and advanced skills in delivering mental health interventions in a range of mental health settings to young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health presentations. .
• Advanced clinical skills in managing young people at risk, including suicide and violence risks.
• Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision and skill development, including secondary consultations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the appropriate legislation, case management practice, and the ability to adhere to policy and procedures.
• A broad understanding of the mental health service system in the state and national reforms, and knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Proven track record in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Are your credentials:

• Tertiary level qualifications in an Allied Health discipline including Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing (Div 1) or Occupational Therapy; or Bachelor of Counselling.
• Those with Social Work or Occupational Therapy degrees must also have completed additional mental health specific training or have an endorsement in mental health.
• Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (APHRA); Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or other appropriate Mental Health Professional registration authority.
• Counsellors must have eligibility for full professional registration at a minimum of Level 3 within the Australian Counselling Association scope of practice guidelines. Social Workers who are not Accredited Mental Health Social Workers should have the ability and willingness to obtain Accredited Mental Health Social Worker credentialling. Occupational Therapists should be equivalent OT2 with a minimum 2 years' experience in mental health. Nurses should have or be working towards credentialling with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses
• Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience within the mental health field, including delivering contemporary, evidence-based practices and therapeutic interventions appropriate for young people.
• A current Drivers Licence.
