What you bring to SBHG (qualifications):

Education & Compliance | Required for all levels:

  • Education: Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related mental health field.
  • Driver's License: Valid California Driver's License with a driving record that meets company eligibility policies.
  • Experience: Two years’ experience in a mental health field with age group(s) to be served by the position in residential or outpatient settings preferred.

Licensure Requirements:

  • Mental Health Specialist II (MHS II): Active registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an Associate (AMFT, ACSW, or APCC).
  • Mental Health Specialist III (MHS III): Active licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as a Licensed clinician (LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC).
  • May be requested to obtain an LPS Certification to put in effect a 5150 hold.
  • This position may be requested to obtain additional certifications, as necessary, including evidenced based practices

Language Skills

  • Ability to speak Spanish Required

How you will make a difference (job overview):

This position has primary responsibility for mental health services and case management services to children, adolescents, adults, and their families. The Mental Health Specialist provides mental health services (including assessment and evaluation as assigned) and other services to clients referred to in the Community Services Program. Services include but are not limited to individual, family, and collateral therapy, treatment planning, etc. He/she acts as liaison with external agencies and functions in teams with other clinical & support staff. S/he documents and bills for mental health and case management services and completes outcomes information. May be requested to obtain additional certifications as needed.

Division/Program Overview:

  • Population Served: Children, Adolescents, and Transition-Age Youth (TAY)
  • Facility & Setting: Field-based / Community settings (schools, homes, and local community facilities)
  • Clinical Services: Comprehensive mental health care, psychiatric evaluation, Evidence-Based Practices (EBP), individual/family therapy, and multidisciplinary care delivered by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and clinicians
  • Length of Stay: Outpatient/community-based timeline (varies according to individual treatment plan and progress)
  • Skills & Transition: Interagency collaboration and transition support with school administrators, county social workers, probation officers, and case managers. Case management, parent partner support, life skills development, and wraparound community support services
