Mental Health Clinician - Multidisciplinary
Grade: RPN3, SW2, OT2, P2
Full time and part time positions available
Location: Western Plains Correctional Centre (WPCC)

Prison Services
We provide mental health services in prisons across Victoria. We strive to provide the same standard of services and care to people in prisons that anyone else experiencing mental illness can access at an area mental health service. Our work in prisons includes:
• triage
• on-site assessments
• ongoing clinical care and support
• harm prevention and crisis interventions
• outpatient clinics and episodic care
• custodial mental health units
• rehabilitation and transition to community programs
Position Objective:
The Mental Health Clinician delivers care within a custodial setting, practicing within a recovery framework and using sound judgement to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and maintain a high standard of patient care. In doing so, the Mental Health Clinician recognises the needs of the individual within the boundaries set by their profession, Forensicare and correctional services.
• This position works within a multidisciplinary team to provide care and facilitate recovery for consumers using evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches.
• The Mental Health Clinician undertakes comprehensive recovery orientated assessment and treatment plans.
• The Mental Health Clinician contributes to the development of the community transition planning.
• The Mental Health Clinician consults, negotiates and liaises effectively with key stakeholders within the correctional system to support consumer recovery.
• This position requires the Mental Health Clinician to demonstrate leadership skills and undertake clinical and other duties as allocated.

Key selection criteria
• Thorough understanding of and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
• Approved qualification in nursing, social work, psychology or occupational therapy:
o Nursing: Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent. Current registration
with AHPRAo Social Work: Approved degree in social work, or other qualifications eligible for membership
of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
o Occupational Therapy: Approved degree in Occupational Therapy and eligibility for
membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists. Current
registration with AHPRA.
o Psychology: Holds a Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APAC
accredited course or equivalent OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APAC
accredited course or equivalent.
o Post qualification experience within mental health, preferably recent experience in
community mental health setting or a demonstration of experience working within a
secondary/tertiary mental health service.
