Main Functions

• Observes and assists assigned mental health patients and helps with daily living activities, therapeutic activities, and socialization

• Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and to ensure the safety of patients and staff

• Attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education, and staff meetings

• Performs and records information about patients including vital signs, weight, glucose monitoring, and demeanor

• May communicate with the patient's family as needed

Education & Experience

• Education: High School Diploma req uired; Associate’s degree preferred

• Experience: At least 1-3 years’ of relevant experience

Competencies & Skills

• Good oral and written communication skills; ability to follow up on information with staff members

• Ability to organize workday and environment to get the job done

• Excellent public contact skills - courteous, tactful, friendly, and the ability to work well with others

• Ability to handle multiple requests and work in a stressful environment
