About Mental Health Coordinating Council

Mental Health Coordinating Council is the peak body for mental health community-based organisations across New South Wales. We champion community-based, non-government organisations that work to support better outcomes for people living with mental health conditions. Together with our members, we make a positive difference in the mental health sector by driving reform, sustainability, and system improvements.

About the Role

MHCC is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Learning and Development team. The trainer role delivers Mental Health and Mental Health Peer Work training to a wide range of participants with a focus on non-accredited professional development courses. This is a full-time role. MHCC offers a variety of professional development training across mental health-specific topics and nationally accredited Certificate qualifications in Mental Health. The Mental Health and Peer Work Trainer is responsible for:

  • Planning, preparation and delivery of non-accredited courses and professional development training
  • Assisting in the development and review of training materials and strategies

Selection Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health and/or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience training in an adult learning and vocational environment utilising an engaging and “think on your feet” training delivery style and applying adult learning principles
  • Current or recent industry work experience in the community mental health sector
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining professional development and industry currency
  • Evidence of compliance with Registered Training Organisation (RTO) standards (accredited training only)
  • Administration experience – attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • High-level skills in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Based in Sydney with a willingness to travel within NSW and interstate as required

Desirable, but not essential

  • Lived experience of mental health distress/recovery/service access and direct experience in the provision of peer work will be highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge of the VET Quality Framework and how it is applied to training delivery and assessment (accredited training only)
  • Current NSW driver’s license and own vehicle
  • Delivery of virtual training
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and review of training materials for both face-to-face and virtual training delivery methods
