The Men’s Ice Hockey Club (MIHC) Coach’s role is to provide skill development through practice or instruction and game preparation based on their knowledge and experience. Proper and safe techniques must be utilized in training and game situations to ensure the health and well-being of the students is a top priority. Risk management must always be taken into consideration when training students with limited experience, skill, or knowledge of the sport.
Duties/Responsibilities
The coach must be aware of and follow all policies and procedures relative to the Club Sport Program and the Office of Student Involvement.
The coach must be aware of and adhere to all Keene State College (KSC) policies on Sexual Misconduct, Discriminatory Harassment and Amorous Relationships and Hazing.
They must ensure that club players understand and are aware of these policies and must refrain from participating in or contributing to behaviors that may be in violation of these policies.
They must seek immediate assistance from an appropriate KSC administrator should they receive a report about any suspected misconduct by club players towards other club players, other KSC students or any other individual (a full description of Discriminatory Harassment policy and other related policies can be found at www.keene.edu/administration/policy/detail/discrimination/).
The coach is primarily responsible for practice planning & supervision, game strategy/management, line-up/roster decisions and must remain in charge of the entire scheduled practice time providing all necessary supervision and instruction, especially for any and all high-risk club activity.
The coach will work in collaboration with the club leadership to oversee budget planning, season scheduling, equipment inventory, compliance with NECHA & ACHA policies and marketing/recruiting.
The coach must also abide by all respective league rules and policies that pertain to club players.
The coach must be a role model of good behavior and good sportsmanship and must conduct themselves in a positive manner when dealing with opposing teams, coaches, and game officials.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience
5 years of experience playing and/or coaching ice hockey.
Required Licenses & Certifications
Current USA Hockey coaching certification and SafeSport certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Computer literate: ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite and various on-line platforms for scheduling, compliance, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Experience coach ice hockey at the collegiate level.
Experience (or willingness to train) in understanding maintenance of wellness and mental health in contemporary student-athletes.
Compensation Pay Range:
$35.00/hour
