Company Description

Our client is building an AI-native platform designed to transform how finance teams operate through intelligent AI agents and agentic product systems.

The company is an extremely early-stage, rapidly growing startup backed by leading investors and a large network of prominent technology founders and operators. Since launching less than a year ago, the company has grown rapidly and is already deployed across hundreds of high-growth companies, including unicorn startups and Fortune 500 customers.

The platform uses AI agents to automate complex finance workflows, allowing enterprise customers to interact with and manage financial data and processes through intelligent software systems.

The company combines AI agents, LLMs, enterprise data integrations, backend infrastructure, workflow orchestration, and evaluation systems to build production-grade AI products for enterprise customers.

The team is approximately 12 people and operates with a highly flat structure, working directly alongside the founders and founding engineering team.

This is an opportunity to join at a ground-floor stage of the company, where every engineering hire has significant ownership over the product, architecture, and technical direction.

The role combines backend engineering, AI agent development, product engineering, enterprise integrations, and direct customer collaboration in a highly autonomous startup environment.

You’ll be responsible for building AI agents that operate in real-world enterprise finance workflows and owning technical problems end-to-end — from understanding the user problem through production deployment.

What You Will Do

• Build production AI agents and agentic systems using Python, LangChain, and LangGraph
• Develop AI-powered products designed for real enterprise finance workflows
• Design and implement backend services supporting AI agents and enterprise applications
• Design database models and data storage systems using PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and related technologies
• Build and maintain APIs and backend services end-to-end
• Own backend architecture for new product areas and customer-facing functionality
• Build AI agent workflows involving tool use, reasoning, orchestration, and external system interaction
• Develop evaluation sets and frameworks for measuring AI agent performance
• Build tracing, monitoring, and observability systems for production AI agents
• Identify and troubleshoot agent performance and reliability issues
• Integrate the platform with enterprise data sources including ERPs, banks, billing systems, and other financial systems
• Build systems that orchestrate communication between backend services and AI services
• Work with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration systems to manage complex asynchronous workflows
• Build reliable infrastructure for production AI agent execution
• Develop backend functionality using Python and TypeScript/Node.js
• Build and maintain APIs using modern backend frameworks and technologies
• Work with data validation and schema systems such as Pydantic and Zod
• Develop database-backed applications using PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
• Build caching, state-management, and high-performance systems using Redis
• Work directly with customers and stakeholders to understand complex finance workflows
• Engage with designers, go-to-market teams, and customers to identify product opportunities
• Translate customer problems into technical solutions and scalable product capabilities
• Identify patterns across customer use cases and incorporate them into the core product
• Own product areas end-to-end from initial scoping through production deployment
• Make architectural and technical decisions with a high degree of autonomy
• Ship production software frequently in a fast-moving startup environment
• Work directly with founders and the founding engineering team on product and technical priorities
• Help shape engineering practices, architecture, and technical foundations as the company scales
• Balance rapid experimentation with reliability, maintainability, and production quality

Ideal Candidate Background

Experience Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience at a startup
• 5–8 years of experience is appropriate for candidates coming from Big Tech or larger technology companies
• Strong experience working at an early-stage startup, ideally Seed through Series C
• Strong track record of shipping production software
• Hands-on experience building AI agents or agentic product systems used by real end users
• Experience building backend systems and customer-facing products
• Experience owning technical problems from initial scoping through production deployment
• Experience working in high-ownership engineering environments strongly preferred
• Experience working directly with customers, stakeholders, or cross-functional teams
• Comfortable operating as an individual contributor without extensive structure
• Experience building AI-powered products in production
• Experience working with enterprise software or complex data workflows is preferred
• Experience in finance or another regulated/sensitive-data industry is a plus
• Must be based in New York City and comfortable working on-site 5 days/week

Technical Requirements

• Strong Python engineering experience
