Join athenahealth as a Member of Technical Staff based in Bangalore - Whitefield, India, working in a hybrid environment. This role focuses on building and maintaining software that improves clinical workflows and strengthens the reliability, usability, and scalability of athenahealth's healthcare technology platform. The person in this role will collaborate with engineers, product partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver maintainable, well-tested solutions using modern software development practices.

Team Summary

Our Athena Clinicals team builds code that matters, supporting more than 100,000 healthcare providers every day. We focus on creating seamless interactions between providers and electronic health records so that critical information is available when and where it is needed. The team works across backend services, APIs, and user-facing experiences to solve meaningful healthcare problems with a strong emphasis on engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous learning.

Essential Job Responsibilities

· Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain scalable software solutions that support clinical workflows and product capabilities.

· Deliver high-quality code aligned with coding standards, secure development practices, and the team's definition of done.

· Write comprehensive unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews to improve software quality and consistency.

· Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and partner teams to translate requirements into clear technical solutions.

· Contribute to component-level technical design, including APIs, data models, rollout considerations, monitoring, and implementation approach.

· Build and enhance services and integrations using Java, Spring Boot, Perl, RESTful APIs, and relational database technologies.

· Troubleshoot application, service, and environment issues in Unix/Linux-based systems and contribute to production support and operational stability.

· Communicate status, surface risks or unclear requirements early, and follow through on commitments to support predictable delivery.

Additional Job Responsibilities

· Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

· Document technical designs, implementation details, and key learnings for broader team use.

· Support deployment, release validation, monitoring, and incident response activities for assigned features and services.

· Partner with cross-functional teams to improve integration patterns, development workflows, and engineering efficiency.

· Contribute ideas that improve product functionality, developer productivity, and user experience.

· Share knowledge with teammates through collaboration, design discussions, code reviews, and day-to-day problem solving.

· Stay current with emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering practices, and apply them thoughtfully with appropriate validation and review.

Expected Education & Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

· 2 to 5 years of professional software development experience.

· Hands-on experience with Java and object-oriented programming fundamentals.

· Experience building or supporting backend services, APIs, and data-driven applications.

· Familiarity with Spring Boot, Perl, RESTful APIs, SQL, and relational databases such as Oracle.

· Exposure to modern web technologies such as JavaScript, CSS, Node.js, or React is a plus.

· Experience working in Unix/Linux environments and using source control, testing, and debugging tools in an Agile development setting.

· Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
