Job Description

Job Summary: The Furnace Cleaner is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and preparing melting furnaces, holders, launders, pits, and related melt department equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This position performs refractory removal, debris cleanup, slag and dross removal, furnace washouts, and general housekeeping activities throughout the melt department. The Furnace Cleaner supports furnace maintenance and rebuild activities while following all safety procedures related to working around hot equipment, confined spaces, and airborne dust. The role focuses on ensuring furnaces and associated equipment remain clean, operational, and ready for production

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operating and Maintaining Equipment: This includes furnaces, ladles, crucibles, and other equipment used in melting processes.
  • Performing Routine and Project Based Maintenance: This may involve cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting equipment to ensure it's in good working order.
  • Rebuilding refractory in holders, launder systems and other assigned tasks.
  • Identifying and resolving issues with melting equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Collecting samples, performing tests (e.g., using a spectrometer), and documenting results to ensure the metal meets quality standards.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and quality control results.
  • Keeping track of materials used in the melting process.
  • Loading and unloading metal and potentially using equipment like forklifts and cranes.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe workplace: Ensuring a tidy and organized workspace is important for safety and efficiency

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have in good standing, forklift, crane and man lift licenses.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and regulations when working with molten metal and equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 – 2 years of experience in a related field.

Work Environment:

  • The job works in conditions with constant exposure to noise, odors, dust, drafts and chemicals.
  • May include seasonally hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time.

Physical Requirements: Carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects (30 pounds or more) is regularly necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Hourly full-time position 40 hours per week with overtime or weekend hours as needed to support production.

Physical Requirements:
