The Medication Assistant coordinates and administers medication to assisted living residents as assigned.
Licenses/Certification:
  • Must complete all required training/competencies in proper handling and administration of medication as per state and company requirements.
  • Valid CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment
Experience:
  • One year experience in the nursing field is preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Job Functions:
  • Following the rights of medication administration, accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders with medication administrations.
  • Medication administration for assigned residents and documents administration or refusals per local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Promptly communicates repeated medication refusals, medication errors, and actual/suspected change of condition to the appropriate health care provider.
  • Communicates to the prescribing licensed health care professional if the resident requires prolonged use of an as needed (PRN) medication.
  • Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
  • Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner.
  • Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Has a clear understanding of medication administration.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Skilled in documentation in electronically based health records
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
