Clinical Laboratory Servicesprovidesan array oftimelyandaccuratediagnostic testing and other services to Baptist Health Corbin's patients, and to other patients and organizations in support of the facilities mission,visionand strategic priorities
The Medical Technologist prepares, performs, and records testing proceduresin accordance withestablishedcriteria for various sections of the Clinical Laboratory. The role involves performing routine test procedures,assistingin the training ofnew staffand students, supporting instrument maintenance, and ensuring properinventory management. The MLT processes quality control data, communicates test results and lab alert valuesto physicians, nurses, and clients, and collects specimens. Additionally, the MLT participates in continuingeducation andproficiencysurveys,reportsany instrument or procedural failures, and ensuresaccuratesampleprocessing from identification to result verification.
Performsaccuratelaboratory testing on blood and body fluids across all complexity levels.
Follows established protocols for specimen collection, processing, analysis, and result reporting.
Communicates test results and critical values accurately andin a timely manner
Performs quality control, equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions as needed.
Ensures compliance with safety, infection control, PPE, confidentiality, and regulatory standards.
Maintains a clean, safe work environment and manages laboratory supplies and reagents.
Participates in quality improvement activities,proficiencytesting, and laboratory quality programs.
Supports training, competency validation, continuing education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, ora relatedsciencerequired
No prior experiencerequired
Two years of college coursework in biology and chemistry plus completion of an accredited Medical Technology or related science program may substitute for the degree requirement when eligible for certification.
MLS certification by ASCP or AMTrequired; certification must be obtained within one year of hire if not already held.
Certificationas MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), CLS (NCA), or equivalent preferred.
