Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform skilled clinical laboratory procedures according to established standards. This position will be responsible for performing automated and manual hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation analyses, urinalysis and cytology. This position may perform technical evaluation of new instrumentation, method development and oversee the review and revision of laboratory policies and procedures. Responsibilities will include monitoring of all procedures and quality control practices to ensure accuracy and validity of test results and compliance with the requirements of regulatory and certifying agencies. The position will work with a multi-disciplinary biomedical research team studying the pathogenesis of infectious agents and toxicity of environmental pollutants and drug products.
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field and one year experience as a laboratory generalist, or MLT with two years’ experience in a clinical laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education and training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Certification by a recognized agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT) is required, but will consider applicants who are in the process of obtaining certification and can obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
Must have demonstrated proficiency as laboratory generalist including hematology, chemistry and urinalysis. Knowledge of GLP’s and experience with laboratory animal research and/or ABSL3 environment is desirable.
A Post-offer physical and background check are required as well as the ability and willingness to obtain required vaccinations and clearances. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Relocation may be offered for this position.
Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
