Mobile Health Unit Driver (1099 Contractor) – Peoria, IL

Heartland Health Services is seeking a dependable and community-focused Mobile Health Unit Driver to support local outreach events throughout the Peoria area this spring and summer.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a side gig, supplemental income, or flexible part-time work with evening and weekend availability.

What You’ll Do

  • Safely drive and operate the Heartland Health Services Mobile Health Unit to and from community events
  • Assist with basic setup and teardown before and after events
  • Arrive approximately 60 minutes prior to each event and remain approximately 60 minutes afterward for preparation and wrap-up
  • Represent Heartland Health Services professionally while interacting with staff, vendors, and community members

Ideal Candidate

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Comfortable driving a large mobile unit/RV-style vehicle
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Able to work independently and assist with light event setup
  • Friendly and community-oriented attitude

Current Event Schedule

Additional events may be added throughout the season. Please add an additional hour for event set-up and again for tear-down.

  • 05/27/2026 – Mental Health Fair | 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM
  • 06/13/2026 – Juneteenth Celebration | 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • 07/08/2026 – Back to School Bash | 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • 07/21/2026 – One Peoria Event | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

The Medical Services Driver provides timely and accurate distribution and dispatch of interdepartmental mail between HHS locations, storage facilities and local venders, in accordance with the Heartland Health Services (HHS) mission, strategic goals, federal and state laws and regulations, performance and outcome objectives, and accreditation standards. In addition to courier services, the driver will function as security while at community events and perform light maintenance at HHS facilities. An Illinois C class license will be required to drive the mobile unit.

Essential Functions

  • Service the primary driver of the mobile unit and assist with delivery of patient care services and management, and navigation of participants on and off mobile unit.
  • Conduct safety inspections of company vehicle prior to and after utilizing.
  • Address and document the vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle both internal and external.
  • Proactively map out driving routes to determine the most efficient routing
  • Set up the mobile unit for providers and clinical staff, assisting stock supplies and equipment.
  • Confers with the Maintenance Supervisor starting each shift to determine work priorities and supplies required.
  • Assume security role while at community events.
  • Ensures clinic compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and HHS rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the clinical provision of medical services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.


Requirements

  • Illinois class C license is required.
  • Pass background check, drug screen, and physical.
  • Pass Motor Vehicle Report. MVRs will be obtained: At time of hire and at least annually for insurance and compliance purposes. Acceptable Driving Record: • 0–1 moving violations in past 3 years • 0 at-fault accidents or 1 minor incident with no citation
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Ability to organize tasks and time to ensure timely completion of all projects.
  • The ability to collaborate with physicians, staff and professionals in multiple settings and locations.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Own vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently in performing duties.
  • Any combination of experience, education, or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill, and ability required is acceptable.
