From $17.17 per hourScheduled Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

A Brief Overview

Assists the medical provider in the documentation of care provided as observed under the direction of the medical provider. Administrative duties include documenting in current EHR, maintaining medical records, and document/transcribe dictated reports in an accurate and timely manner. Return reports in current EHR to the dictator for review and signature or correction. Medical documentation of a variety of medical reports, such as history and physicals, diagnostic imaging studies, daily progress notes, consultations, operations, and final summaries. Transcribe dictated reports and translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms. Responsible for accurate and timely assignment of ICD10-CM codes as appropriate under the direction of the medical provider. Understands and assists with functions of the Health Information Management Department and GRHS rules and regulations.

What you will do

  • Accompany medical provider to patient interactions and document thoroughly and accurately the care provided under the direction of the medical provider.
  • Distinguish between homonyms and recognize inconsistencies and mistakes in medical terms, referring to dictionaries, drug references, and other sources on anatomy, physiology, and medicine.
  • Identify mistakes in reports and check with doctors to obtain the correct information.
  • Able to distinguish between appropriate templates based on the appointment type. Providing appropriate note for provider to review and sign.
  • Produce medical reports, patient-care information, statistics, medical history and administrative material.
  • Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, and proper medical terminology.
  • Maintain medical files and databases, including records such as procedure reports, medical histories, diagnostic workups, admission and discharge summaries.
  • Translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms to ensure the accuracy of patient and health care facility records.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • Coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology Preferred
  • Computer experience Preferred
  • 1-3 years healthcare experience
  • Experience with MS Office Preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Preferred
  • Keyboarding skills required
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, editing and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications. Minimum typing skills of 55 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
