The Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) is a key member of the Australian Medical Affairs team, serving as a field-based scientific expert and a primary medical point-of-contact for external stakeholders. This role focuses on scientific exchange, insights gathering, and local execution of medical strategy within Oncology.

The MSL develops deep disease and product expertise, maintains strong relationships with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and key opinion leaders (KOLs), and ensures the timely, compliant dissemination of scientific information. The role reports to the Medical Affairs Team Lead or Medical Head, as applicable.

Responsibilities

External Scientific Engagement

· Establish, build, and maintain collaborative relationships with external medical experts, KOLs, and relevant stakeholders within Oncology; deepen understanding of stakeholder needs and local practice patterns.

· Communicate complex scientific and clinical information related to current and future Oncology products, including delivering scientific presentations to individuals or groups of HCPs.

· Respond promptly, accurately, and compliantly to unsolicited medical inquiries from HCPs and other stakeholders.

· Capture and report medical insights that inform national medical strategy and cross-functional planning.

Medical Strategy & Tactical Execution

· Monitor the scientific and competitive landscape to identify emerging trends, unmet needs, and; proactively communicate insights to cross-functional partners.

· Execute and support medical tactical plans, including external medical education, symposia, advisory boards, scientific meetings, and clinical educational programs (e.g., round tables, preceptorships).

· Implement and track KOL engagement plans, ensuring objectives are met in a timely and compliant manner.

Evidence Generation & Research Support

· Support local Early Access / Compassionate Use Programs addressing unmet medical needs in Oncology.

· Provide field-based support for partner-led clinical trials, registries, and investigator-initiated studies (IIS) in accordance with local regulations, GCP, and company policy.

Internal Collaboration & Training

· Proactively contribute to internal scientific education for cross-functional teams (sales, market access, commercial, training partners, and specialised vendors).

· Develop and maintain high-quality scientific training materials and ensure internal teams are well-equipped with Oncology knowledge.

Compliance & Medical Governance

· Maintain expert understanding of assigned products, disease areas, and evolving clinical evidence.

· Ensure full adherence to pharmacovigilance processes and support implementation of additional risk-minimisation activities.

· Conduct all activities in accordance with Australian legal and regulatory requirements, MA Code of Conduct, local ethical standards, and internal policies.

Requirements

Education & Experience

· Advanced tertiary degree in a scientific or medical discipline (PharmD, PhD, MD preferred).

· Minimum 2 years’ Medical Affairs experience in Australia/New Zealand, including at least 2 years as an MSL or equivalent role.

· Oncology and/or Immuno-Oncology experience highly desirable; experience in product launches advantageous.

· Experience in multinational pharmaceutical or biotech environments.

· Strong understanding of Australian healthcare and regulatory systems, including practical working experience with the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct.
