Myriad Genetics is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) I within Medical Affairs. This MSL position is a field-based research, scientific, and clinical expert role. The primary foci of this role are to lead and contribute to research related to Myriad’s mission and goals, specifically in the areas of reproductive genetics and hereditary cancer testing (HCT) in the unaffected population and to engage with regional and local key opinion leaders (KOLs). In addition, MSLs are also a critical partner to the Myriad Sales team supporting and initiating strategic value-added clinical education to clients. This position will be housed in the Research and KOL focused MSL team.

The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of clinical expertise, research skills, knowledge of healthcare systems, access issues, and market awareness. MSLs play a pivotal role in communicating Myriad’s scientific advancements to healthcare professionals and KOLs in alignment with the medical affairs KOL strategy. MSLs collaborate with other functional groups, including Research and Development, Clinical Development, Marketing, Payer Markets, Training, and others.

The successful candidate will join Myriad’s Medical Affairs team and will report to the Research and KOL focused MSL team Senior Manager who reports to the Director. This position will require regular travel (40%) with an average of 2 days of travel per week within the aligned territory. Though most of the travel is within the assigned geography, there will be additional travel required for educational conferences, corporate meetings, KOL engagement meetings, and cross coverage requests.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities (70%) are to:

  • Contribute to the development of the overall Medical Affairs research strategy.
  • Lead and/or contribute to research projects within Medical Affairs.
  • Lead and/or contribute to research projects within Clinical Development.
  • Participate/lead abstract and publication development.
  • Present at national, regional, and local conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of the KOL engagement strategy.
  • Initiate, develop, and sustain independent relationships with regional and local KOLs who are involved in and/or leading research, and who influence professional guidelines and the incorporation of genetic screening/testing into clinical practice.
  • Project-based work and/or consistent collaboration with commercially oriented partners.

Thirty percent of the time will be customer-centric and aligned closely to Myriad Medical Affairs’ business strategies and initiatives. In close collaboration with Sales colleagues, this MSL will: include cross-functional collaborative work within and outside Medical Affairs. Examples of these include:

  • Serve as the clinical expert to healthcare providers by providing effective remote and on-site clinical education and support, including presenting information on the prenatal and unaffected HCT testing portfolio, medical society guidelines, and genetic testing/screening technologies. The MSL will support the integration of genetic testing into clinical practice.
  • Be a partner to Sales in developing strategic plans for key accounts in support of business needs while maintaining clinical expertise and excellence for customers and their patients.
  • Provide ongoing clinical support, education, and training to the Sales team.
  • Document clinical interventions and Insights in a timely manner.

A successful MSL will:

  • Demonstrate understanding and competence in research; development of research questions, research methodologies, data analysis and abstract and publication development.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge of Myriad’s portfolio of reproductive and HCT products.
  • Remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment, identify areas of need and propose solutions, communicate and collaborate successfully with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, and work with an efficiency mindset.
  • Educate to empower healthcare providers on the adoption of hereditary cancer risk assessment and reproductive genetic screening, consistent with current standards of care and guidelines.
  • Maintain clinical expertise through continuing education via conferences, journal clubs, literature review, team discussions, and other learning opportunities.
  • Present Myriad research and education at national and regional conferences.
  • Deliver relevant scientific education and support to internal and external partners.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with healthcare providers and KOLs in a variety of roles in alignment with the KOL strategy.
  • Effectively strategize and prioritize, managing time and needs in a specific geography, based on current commercial strategy.
  • Serve as an active member of the Medical Affairs team, sharing best practices to support and elevate other team members.
  • Stay current on research and publications in women’s health related topics and attend educational conferences.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in genetic counseling, or another related field, required: ( i.e., MS, APP, PA, NP). Genetics and research experience are strongly preferred.
  • Current and active relevant board certifications and licenses required.
  • Post-graduate clinical experience preferred.
  • Understanding genetics, genetic testing, and current service delivery models preferred.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent relationship building skills.
  • Willing and able to travel 2-3 days per week and occasional weekends for conferences and meetings.
  • Able to effectively manage travel and expenses within budget.

Work Activities

  • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (> 2 consecutive hours in an 8-hour day)
  • Keyboard use (greater or equal to 50% of the workday)
  • Driving a personal vehicle / rental car and flying across the U.S.
  • Travel: Yes, up to 40% on average. Most travel is within a defined geographic region, but additional travel may be required for coverage assistance, conferences or meetings.
  • Schedule: Full-time

Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements –light work or exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical Requirements –stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, pushing, or pulling, and reaching. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
