Job Title: Medical Sales Representative – Therapeutic Dermatology
Localisation: KZN- Durban Inland, Mainline & Country trip Newcastle & Ladysmith, South Africa
As a Medical Sales Representative, you are responsible for driving the commercial performance of your assigned territory, delivering sales growth while strengthening the market presence of Galderma’s dermatology portfolio.
You will act as the owner of your territory, developing and maintaining strong relationships with Dermatologists, General Practitioners, Pharmacists, and other key healthcare professionals. Through a proactive and customer-focused approach, you will identify opportunities to grow the business, enhance service delivery, and contribute to sustainable market share expansion.
Working within a highly regulated environment, you will ensure full compliance with company policies and local regulations, while executing marketing strategies and delivering high-quality scientific and product engagement. Flexibility to attend after-hours and weekend events, including congresses, workshops, and meetings, is required, as well as a commitment to continuous learning in product, disease, and competitor knowledge. Certification by the Marketing Code Authority (MCA) of South Africa (renewed every two years) is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver sales targets and drive market share growth within the assigned territory
Promote and detail products to Dermatologists, targeted General Practitioners, selected Aesthetic Doctors, and Pharmacy personnel
Build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders (KOLs)
Execute marketing strategies in alignment with business objectives
Demonstrate strong mastery of the full sales cycle, including customer engagement, needs identification, negotiation, and closing
Organize and lead training sessions, workshops, medical education initiatives, and participate in congresses and conferences
Provide high-quality product and disease training to healthcare professionals and pharmacy staff
Monitor competitor activity and gather relevant market intelligence to inform business decisions
Ensure strict adherence to compliance, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
Effectively plan and manage territory activities, including customer coverage, call planning, and administrative reporting (CRM updates, call logging, data analysis)
Manage travel and marketing expenses in line with company guidelines
Collaborate closely with Sales Management and cross-functional teams to support business objectives
Skills & Qualifications
Post-secondary education (BSc or related qualification preferred)
3–6 years’ experience as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative with proven success in doctor detailing and territory management
Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical sales process, including opening, probing, negotiating, and closing
Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets and manage a territory effectively
Experience in dermatology and established relationships with key opinion leaders is advantageous
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
Strong commercial acumen with a results-driven mindset
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
Good knowledge of compliance requirements within the pharmaceutical industry
Valid code 8 driver’s license and own transport essential
Ideally based within the assigned territory
