Oversee daily health information management operations, including medical record completion, coding, storage, security, auditing, and reporting.
Develop and update policies and procedures to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, applicable standards, and medical staff requirements.
Review and authorize releases of medical information and represent the department when records are required for court proceedings.
Supervise and train staff, monitor documentation accuracy and timeliness, and support computerized health information systems.
Advise leadership and committees on health information needs, recommend operational improvements, and manage staffing and resources within the established budget.

This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks, and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation.
The selected candidate will work in an environment that is fast paced, busy and challenging at times, but embraces collaboration through working closely with supervisors, managers, and personnel to assist in providing services to Alaska Psychiatric Institute.

A bachelor's degree in health informatics and information management accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.
AND
One year of experience assembling patients' health information including medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, etcetera, and/or transcribing dictated recordings made by physicians and other health care professionals into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material, and/or coding diagnoses and procedures by using medical coding processes and disease classifications.
AND
Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association.
OR
A bachelor's degree in health informatics and information management accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.
AND
Two years experience assembling patients' health information including medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, etcetera, and/or transcribing dictated recordings made by physicians and other health care professionals into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material, and/or coding diagnoses and procedures by using medical coding processes and disease classifications.
OR
An associate's degree in health informatics and information management accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.
AND
Four years experience assembling patients' health information including medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, etcetera, and/or transcribing dictated recordings made by physicians and other health care professionals into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material, and/or coding diagnoses and procedures by using medical coding processes and disease classifications.
OR
Six years of any combination of:
Post-secondary education (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal 1 month) in health information technology, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, health data requirements and standards, clinical classification and coding systems, legal issues relating to health care documentation, data analysis, health care reimbursement methods, database security and management, quality improvement methods, or other related course work,
AND/OR
Experience assembling patients' health information including medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, etcetera, and/or transcribing dictated recordings made by physicians and other health care professionals into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material, and/or coding diagnoses and procedures by using medical coding processes and disease classifications.
For some positions, the successful candidate, if not currently certified as a RHIA or RHIT by the American Health Information Management Association, must become certified within six months of hire as a condition of employment to meet the accrediting requirements of the hospital.
