Salary Range:

$193,467.00 - $319,221.00The Medical Physicist is responsible for supporting the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy through equipment commissioning and quality assurance, treatment planning support, radiation safety activities, and patient-specific QA procedures. The physicist works collaboratively with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, other staff members, and vendors to maintain high standards of patient care and regulatory compliance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and annual QA of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Perform machine calibration and dosimetric measurements.
  • Conduct patient-specific QA for IMRT, VMAT, SRS, and SBRT treatments.
  • Perform weekly chart checks and treatment plan reviews.
  • Support image-guided radiation therapy and brachytherapy procedures.
  • Perform acceptance testing, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and software.
  • Investigate and resolve equipment or treatment delivery issues.
  • Maintain accurate QA documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits as needed.
  • Participate in radiation safety activities and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists to support patient treatments.
  • Provide technical consultation regarding treatment planning and dose delivery.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and workflow issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and clinical best practices.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and educational activities.


Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or PhD degree in Medical Physics or a related field from an accredited institution - required
  • 1-3 years with IMRT, VMAT, SRS/SBRT, IGRT, and Eclipse treatment planning system - required
  • Routine and annual QA of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Patient-specific QA for IMRT, VMAT, SRS and SBRT treatments.
  • Treatment plan reviews and chart checks.
  • Investigate and resolve equipment or treatment delivery issues.
  • ABR - Amer Bd Of Radiology-Cert in Therapeutic Medical Physics within 180 Days - required
  • Licensure in NYS or permit to practice therapeutic medical physics within 180 Days - required

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
