Job Description

The U.S. Medical Operations Manager sets the strategic direction for the organization’s occupational health services and drives both clinical and operational excellence. This role oversees budgeting, daily operations, clinical practice standards, regulatory compliance, and overall performance across onsite medical clinics, reporting to the VP of Health Care, Disability, and Medical Operations. The manager ensures consistent delivery of occupational health services, emergency response, acute non‑occupational care, and wellness programs that support employee health and safety. The position also advances operational efficiency, strengthens clinical protocols, identifies improvement opportunities, and collaborates with global healthcare teams. Additionally, the manager provides leadership to clinical staff, promotes accountability, and partners cross‑functionally with HR, Benefits, Safety, Security, and Labor Relations to enhance health outcomes and program performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for a multidisciplinary medical workforce (~100 employees), overseeing operations, staffing, onboarding, performance management, training, and retention.
  • Oversee 16+ multi‑state onsite medical clinics, including facility maintenance, modernization, and renovation projects, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Manage operating budgets covering staffing, travel, education, medical equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA/MIOSHA, HIPAA, ADA, ERISA, record retention requirements, and corporate policies; maintain audit readiness.
  • Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical, operational, and administrative policies and procedures, including the Health Services Manual.
  • Direct key health programs including Preventive Health, Safe Workplace Drug & Alcohol Program, medical surveillance, return‑to‑work, emergency response/AED, and injury/illness management.
  • Oversee EMR systems and medical technologies, including upgrades, data integrity, documentation standards, chart audits, and record retention (U.S., Canada, and Mexico).
  • Lead education and training initiatives to enhance clinical competencies, operational effectiveness, and professional development.
  • Manage union workforce relations, support UAW negotiations, and maintain positive labor partnerships.
  • Strengthen cross‑functional collaboration with plant leadership, HR, Safety, Security, and UAW teams.
  • Support vendor management, RFP processes, and contract execution for clinical services and medical technologies.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting to deliver executive‑level insights on injury trends, near‑misses, clinic utilization, and audit outcomes.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to meet evolving organizational needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nursing, Health Administration, Public Health, HR, or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in occupational health, medical operations, or clinical management

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA, workers’ compensation, and HIPAA requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing clinical teams or multi‑site operations

  • Background in Medical Operations, Occupational Health, Benefits, or related healthcare fields

  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, collaboration, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Occupational Health, or related field
  • Strong business acumen (budgeting, financial analysis, vendor management, data‑driven decision‑making)
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial occupational health environments
  • Experience working with unionized workforces (e.g., UAW)
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and clinical process optimization
