2) JOB DESCRIPTION

ENT Medical Officer (Senior Registrar) is appointed by the KPJ Healthcare Berhad and seconded to the Hospital to work under the supervision of the ENT consultant. The ENT Medical Officer (Senior Registrar) and the ENT consultant work as a team in providing the ENT specialty services at the Hospital. The scope of work as the ENT Medical Officer (Senior Registrar) includes the following:

• To assist the ENT consultant in all clinical and non-clinical activities pertaining to the delivery of excellent ENT services to the patients.

• To perform general clinical activities as privileged by the Hospital as a Medical Officer.

• To perform ENT clinical work as instructed and with the permission of the ENT consultant which will include the following :

- To provide specialist out-patient clinic consultancy in a team led by the consultant. To clerk, examine and treat patients as permitted/allowed by the consultant.

- To attend to ENT emergency cases and appropriately manage basic ENT treatment at the A&E Department, in consultation with the consultant.

- To perform minor procedures at A&E Department or in the wards if permitted by the consultant and is within the Medical Officer’s capabilities.

- To attend to all ward emergencies and / or any acutely ill patient in the ward, or ICU/HDU or at any other patient area prior to the Consultant’s arrival.

- To clerk in-patient admissions and order appropriate investigations.

- To attend to in-patients such as pre and post operation rounds, appropriate review and assessment of patients, discharge procedures, medication prescription, issuing medical certificate and to inform the consultant as necessary.

- To manage patients in the out-patient clinic with permission of the consultant especially when the consultant is engaged in the OR other clinical/ administrative work at the Hospital.

- To be first-assistant to the consultant in performing surgeries and other ENT procedures in the OR, clinic or wards. ENT Medical Officer (Senior Registrar) may perform the surgeries/procedures only after being privileged/permitted by the consultant.

- To assist ENT services of other consultants in Hospitals within the KPJ Group (temporarily) when required.

• To give lectures/tutorials or other academic activities to the Master students, as instructed by the Director of the Master of ENT programme and Dean, Graduate School of Medicine KPJU.

• To maintain an updated procedure Log Book for regular inspection by the consultant for the purpose of submission to National Specialist Register (NSR).

3) OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• To be involved in Hospital clinical committees when required.

• To be involved in clinical governance, clinical risk management and quality improvement activities of the Hospital when required.

• Training:

- CPR / ALS (to be re-certified every 2 years).

- ACLS certification required for Hospitals with Cath Lab facilities (to be re-certified every 2 years).

- Any other training that is required.

• Continuing medical education:

- To attend conferences / seminars yearly (as per KPI requirements).

- To attend in-house CME programs (as per KPI requirements).

- To give lectures/tutorials or other academic activities to the Master students, as instructed by the Director of the ENT (KPJU) programme and Dean, Graduate School of Medicine KPJ Healthcare University.

• Safety and health:

- To comply with requirements imposed on the Management of the Hospital by the Occupational Safety & Health Act or any related Regulations.

- To wear or use at all times any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or clothing provided by the Management for the purpose of preventing risks to your safety and health.

- To establish and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (Staff Registry).

• Blood bank & transfusion services

- Assist the consultant to cross check blood for transfusion.

• Dress code: To be in office attire during office hours, to wear neck-tie as necessary and shoes (no sandals & T-shirt). Women to be decently dressed (no sleeveless dresses, plunging necklines or skirts above the knee)

• White doctor’s coats are provided by the Hospital and you are encouraged to wear them while on duty.
