Department: Endocrinology Associates
Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Office Manager, Operations Manager, Office Supervisor, and/or Family Health Center Manager. The Medical Office LPN's primary job function is to provide assistance to the provider with patient exams and/or procedures. Collects vitals, chief complaints, pain assessment, and documents past medical history. Phones and/or e-prescribes prescriptions to pharmacies, make referrals, operates medical equipment, and performs patient education. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required

Licensure:

• Licensed to practice as an LPN (applicable to state) required

• BLS required within 90 days of hire

Experience:

• One to three months experience preferred

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Assists the provider with patient examinations, procedures, venipuncture, and other diagnostic testing.

2. Collects and documents patient vitals, chief complaints, pain assessment, past medical, family and social histories.

3. Performs and maintains other LPN duties as related to physician office operations.

4. Conducts monthly inspections of all supplies and medications to assess expiration dates and disposes of expired items per policy.

5. Ensures that clinical supplies are properly stocked.

6. Reviews charts for next day's appointments.

7. Logs and updates medication lists for patients.

8. Assists with answering phones, scheduling appointments and scanning.

9. May be asked to provide coverage in other areas of the Foundation offices.

10. Manages the care of the patient in collaboration with other members of the health care team in order to meet the health care needs of the patient.

11. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy.

12. Cross train to perform Medical Office Assistant duties.

13. Follows vaccine and medication management policy.

14. Performs document import daily.

15. Reviews and handles ERX requests with providers' direction. Handles failed and error electronic prescriptions.

16. Contacts insurance companies to obtain necessary authorizations/pre-certs.

17. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/or high level disinfection per the instructions for use (IFU) by the manufacturer. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained, and stored per the IFU's.

18. Follows medical record documentation procedure as detailed in the MCF Documentation Assistant policy.

19. Assists the provider in navigating the medical record.

20. Present during the provider’s performance of a clinical service and documents (on behalf of the provider) everything said during the course of the service.

21. Conducts Daily check off for AED.

22. Conducts weekly check-off on equipment per department policy.

23. Conducts Monthly check-off for eye wash.

24. Ensures patient care areas are cleaned after each patient visit per SOMC guidelines.

25. Performs other duties as assigned.
