Job Description

Riverway Clinic is looking to hire a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Assistant to join ourLaboratory Services team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.

Performs specimen collections per provider orders. Performs routine testing for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease, in accordance with clinical and governmental standards. Excellence is to be centered on patient care and patient relationships and is the responsibility of all employees.

  1. Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  2. Perform testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient, quality focused, cost-effective manner. Any combination of the following areas may be included: Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, Computer Operation and Reception/Greet Station.
  3. Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately according to SOP.
  4. Perform and document maintenance procedures and maintain adequate supplies.
  5. Demonstrate competency and comply with all regulatory agency policies.
  6. Consistently implement and adhere to the laboratory customer service and patient experience standards. The standards include maintaining confidentiality, promoting teamwork, successful communication and conflict resolution.
  7. Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs and department/clinic changes.
  8. Demonstrate professional development through participation in continuing education, special projects and community / corporate / professional organizations. Demonstrate personal development through dependability, professional appearance, and cooperative attitude.
  9. Perform other tasks as assigned.
  10. Assists in orientation and training of new personnel as assigned to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed. Documents training on the training checklist.
  11. Participates in quality improvement activities, including: analyzing proficiency testing samples, performs and documents quality control
  12. Prepares test orders and specimens for testing and/or transfer to reference laboratory.
  13. Maintains proper use of standard precautions, protective barriers, use of aseptic technique and disposal of infections/hazardous waste.
  14. Complies with applicable legislation such as OSHA, CLIA and College of America Pathologists standards.

Work Schedule:

Weekday shifts between 7am - 830pm.

Required Qualifications:

Medical Lab Technician:

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology required and certification from ASCP/BOC, preferred. Or
  • Medical Laboratory Technology equivalent education and experience, such as from military experience.
  • Qualified to work in a moderately complex laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
  • One-year recent experience in an accredited laboratory preferred.

OR

Medical Assistant:

  • Medical Assistant having completed assistant program; or CMA with current AAMA certificate; or RMA with current AMT certificate.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must possess speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position. Manual dexterity is required. Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently. Some lifting may be required.

Typical Working Conditions:

Frequent exposure to; communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, bio-hazardous wastes and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
