Job Description

The Medical Lab Scientist provides laboratory diagnostic and analytical services in support of patient care operations at a Military Treatment Facility in Misawa, Japan. This position supports healthcare delivery and military readiness by performing laboratory testing procedures in accordance with DHA, DoD, and accreditation standards.

*Position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory testing procedures in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, blood bank, coagulation, and urinalysis.
  • Ensure accurate analysis, interpretation, and reporting of laboratory results.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Perform specimen collection, processing, handling, and storage procedures.
  • Follow laboratory quality assurance and quality control protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention and laboratory safety standards.
  • Document laboratory activities and patient information in electronic systems.
  • Participate in laboratory inspections, audits, and competency assessments.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers regarding laboratory findings and patient care needs.
  • Assist with inventory management, supply accountability, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in continuing education and mandatory training activities.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
  • Current certification as an MLS or MT through ASCP or equivalent certification agency.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted licensure or certification as required.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulations, instrumentation, and quality management procedures.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to meet Government medical, credentialing, and installation access requirements.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
