Job Summary

Responsible for all phases of the clinical laboratory testing process in a hospital wide team environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

All pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical functions

Participate in Support Activities such as Procedure Reviews, Procedure Writing, Training

Participate in Inventory Management

Order, Process, prepare specimens for on-site testing or for sending to reference laboratory

Operate and Maintain Instruments and verify performance through appropriate use of standards, controls and calibrators

Evaluate Results for reasonableness and accuracy based on patient condition, age, gender etc.

Recognize unusual or unlikely results or potential interfering factors and investigate prior to reporting

Recognize and report critical results after evaluation of test results and specimen integrity

Solve basic equipment and testing problems

Participate in departmental and hospital Quality Assurance activities

Process and test proficiency testing specimens as assigned

Complete mandatory annual training and competency testing and participate in continuing education opportunities as available and appropriate.

Special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • 1 Year working experience Preferred, but will consider New Grads
  • Associates Degree

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

Current ASCP or equivalent CPR or BLS certification- (Within 3 months of hire). Washington State Phlebotomy License is optional.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of Quality Control Westgard Rules and Documentation Able to recognize unlikely results and troubleshoot English language Basic computer skills Able to perform Body Fluid Cell Counts and Hematology Manual Differentials Able to perform Urine Microscopies Basic knowledge of Blood Banking Able to perform gram stains Able to communicate effectively with providers, nurses and patients Able to work independently Shift at times will be variable, the ability to be flexible is required.
