About the Role:

Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Must hold a current MT, MLT or CLT license (or greater) with an accrediting agency for laboratory personnel.

  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and MLT training through accredited school.

  • Minimum Experience: A minimum one-year certificate from college or technical school for Medical Laboratory Technician training. Appropriate education or certification may be substituted for experience.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Sets up, runs quality control tests, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, performs maintenance and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, centrifuge, and other equipment.

  • Obtains specimens from patient's finger, heel, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.

  • Accurately processes specimens using correct CPT and ICD-9 codes for in house and reference lab work.

  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and etc using specialized techniques following established procedures or protocols.

  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action according to TLC policy.

  • Reviews reports for clerical accuracy and approves test results electronically.

  • Verifies identity of patient sample prior to performing procedures.

  • Operates IDX, Orchard, Centricity and online sites (Quest Care360, eLabCorp, NGHS Blue Iris) to process, store, and retrieve health information/tests ordered and insurance information.

  • Carries out duties and responsibilities without direct supervision. Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on essentially procedure-oriented operations.

  • Responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality.

  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with established policies and procedures including ABN requirements and insurance requirements as they relate to referral specimens.

  • Complies with all OSHA and CLIA mandated regulations.

  • Able to utilize reference lab manuals for specimen requirements and etc.

  • Exhibit ability and knowledge to recognize the need for analyzer and/or computer service when problems arise.
