
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies. This role supports all phases of the laboratory workflow, including Pre Analytic, Analytic, and Post Analytic functions. The technician may share responsibility for assigning work to self and coworkers in the absence of a supervisor or lead. All duties must comply with CLIA standards, including requirements outlined in 42CFR493.1495 for high complexity testing and 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel.
Essential Responsibilities
Education
Associate degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation CAHEA, or an Associate degree in a laboratory related science such as Biology or Chemistry with equivalent training and experience such as military laboratory training.
Experience
Six months of full time clinical laboratory experience required. Clinical laboratory experience obtained during an accredited Medical Technology program meets this requirement.
Licensure and Certification
Appropriate licensure or certification as required by state and federal regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.) keyboard, LIS, calculators, fax, auto analyzers. Basic computer skills required.
