Metabolon is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to join our Platform Analysis team. In this role, the scientist will be responsible for all aspects of routine laboratory testing using our liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based instrumentation. The incumbent will be expected to contribute as a team player in a high-throughput clinical laboratory and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an onsite role based in Metabolon’s Research Triangle Park, North Carolina laboratory. The incumbent will be expected to work onsite Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Prepare solutions and standards needed for operations of instruments, in accordance with established protocols.
• Operate laboratory instruments and conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and system performance checks.
• Develop the ability to diagnose instrument problems and perform basic unscheduled maintenance or identify external repair service is needed.
• Oversee the data collection for samples and review data to ensure that data quality standards are met.
• Perform work and document work within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Provide daily reports for documentation of the QC performance for each data set.
• Assist with secondary review of QC performance reports with eventual final report analysis.
• Provide input for improving and refining the quality control and assurance process.
• Contribute to continuous improvement programs.
• Assist in revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within scope of work.
• Following the training period, perform tasks with little instruction on daily work and execute newly introduced assignments with general instructions.
• Understand company goals and how they contribute to the achievement of those goals.
• Additional tasks assigned may include aiding the sample preparation laboratory and assisting other lab team members with specified tasks.
• This role may require overtime and/or occasional weekend work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a physical, biological, or related science, such as chemistry, biology, clinical chemistry, biochemistry.
• 1-2 years of experience in a clinical testing, regulated laboratory, or high-throughput laboratory environment.
• Working knowledge of biological systems, laboratory operations, and common analytical workflows, including chromatography, mass spectrometry, and laboratory automation as well as any experience with laboratory automation systems, liquid handling robotics, or LIMS required.
• Experience applying technical knowledge and sound judgment to independently plan and execute complex laboratory activities and resolve problems.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow written procedures and maintain high standards for quality, safety, and compliance standards.
• Effective prioritization and time-management skills with a track record of consistently meeting established laboratory schedules and timelines.
• Sound judgement, critical thinking, and resourcefulness when working autonomously and addressing complex or non-routine situations.
