Job Location 415 Columbia Rd - Dorchester, MA 02125 Position Type Full Time 30+ hours Salary Range $20.00 - $28.00 Hourly

Medical Interpreter - full-time 40 hours per week

Pay Range: The expected base pay for the position is $20-$28 per hour and may be increased based on other factors, such as language, certifications, etc.

Primary Function:

Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Medical Interpreter will provide comprehensive, competent translation services for the patients and clients of the Upham’s Corner Health Center in their interactions with health center staff, particularly medical and behavioral health provider staff for patent visits.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides in-person medical interpretation for non-English speaking patients during their interaction with health center staff and providers.
  • Provide translation for patients over the phone, as necessary.
  • Provides patient assistance with forms, as necessary.
  • Prepare translations for written materials, such as signs, letters, and marketing materials as necessary.
  • Participation in activities related to quality improvement, including, but not limited to tracking of activities on metrics such as visit time, number of patients served, etc.
  • Perform other duties, as required.



Qualifications

Minimum Basic Knowledge:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Medical Interpretation Certification required. In absence of Medical Interpreter Certification must be able to complete a Medical Interpreter Certification program within 1 year of hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of HIPAA and Patient Confidentiality Requirements required.
  • Bilingual - English and Cape-Verdean Creole required. Proficiency in a third language preferred; Spanish, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess strong verbal communication, interpersonal, organization and time management skills.
  • Provides excellent quality medical interpretations and possesses strong judgment and problem solving skills
  • Availability on evenings and Saturdays preferred.
  • Detail oriented and responsible.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation to be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to work with frequent interruptions, as well as enjoy interacting with patients and coworkers in a busy customer service environment.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None.
