
MUSC Health is seeking a highly motivated Medical ICU Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join our academic medical center. This position supports medication-use safety and clinical excellence across a diverse and complex Medical ICU population while working within a multidisciplinary, teaching-focused environment.
As part of MUSC Health—South Carolina’s only comprehensive academic health system—the Medical ICU Clinical Pharmacy Specialist plays a key role in direct patient care, interprofessional collaboration, and support of the education mission for pharmacy learners.

Key Responsibilities:
• Round with interdisciplinary Medical ICU team
• Review, verify, and clinically assess medication orders for appropriateness, safety, and efficacy
• Provide comprehensive inpatient clinical pharmacy services, including dosing optimization, renal/hepatic adjustments, antimicrobial stewardship support, and drug interaction management
• Serve as a medication therapy resource for physicians, residents, nurses and other healthcare professionals
• Participate in medication reconciliation and transitions of care processes
• Serve as a pharmacy student and resident preceptor on rotation and for longitudinal projects
• Review guidelines, protocols, policies and provide needed revisions
• Assist with management of medication shortages, formulary compliance, and therapeutic interchange as needed
• Document and communicate clinical and operational interventions in the electronic medical record and pharmacy systems
• Ensure compliance with MUSC Health policies, Joint Commission standards, and state and federal regulations
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and support MUSC’s academic mission, including interaction with pharmacy students and residents as appropriate
Schedule Details:
• 8 hours shifts
• Holiday coverage included as part of the rotation
Additional Job Description
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
Required Qualifications:
• PharmD from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
• Active South Carolina pharmacist license or eligibility for licensure
• Ability to practice independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity inpatient environment
• Strong clinical knowledge, communication skills, and commitment to teamwork
• Interest in precepting pharmacy students or residents
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
Preferred Qualifications:
• PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency or equivalent inpatient experience
• Prior experience in an academic medical center or tertiary care hospital
• Interest in precepting pharmacy students or residents
