Job Description

The Medical Equipment Specialist II plays a key role in coordinating the delivery, service, and maintenance of home medical equipment to ensure patients receive timely, high-quality support. This position works closely with delivery technicians, warehouse staff, and patient care teams to manage equipment scheduling, inventory, and preventative maintenance while ensuring compliance with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
The specialist also helps maintain operational efficiency by coordinating service requests, supporting staff training, monitoring equipment inventory, and ensuring an exceptional patient and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Service Coordination
  • Coordinate scheduling of equipment deliveries, pickups, and service calls to ensure timely patient service.
  • Communicate new setups and pickup requests to delivery and service technicians.
  • Assist with in-home equipment deliveries when needed.
Customer & Patient Support
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns, ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
  • Communicate service updates and delays to patients when necessary.
  • Anticipate patient needs and recommend medically appropriate products or services.
Team Support & Training
  • Assist with scheduling delivery technicians to maximize productivity and response time.
  • Train and mentor new Medical Equipment Delivery Technicians.
  • Communicate departmental goals, policies, and procedures to staff.
Equipment & Inventory Management
  • Monitor warehouse inventory and assist with reordering supplies to prevent stock shortages.
  • Track equipment inventory and preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate vendor repairs and returns, including overstock and obsolete inventory.
Compliance & Quality
  • Perform and coordinate preventative maintenance on equipment per manufacturer and regulatory standards.
  • Support ongoing readiness for accreditation and regulatory surveys.
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance monitoring initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Home Medical Equipment (HME) operation
  • Experience training staff is preferred.
Licensure / Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must meet organizational driving record standards.
  • Ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) qualifications if applicable.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
This role may require:
  • Standing, walking, bending, and climbing.
  • Lifting and carrying medical equipment (up to 50+ lbs at times).
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions including warehouse and field environments.
