MEDICAL DOCTOR (POST-NYSC)

About the Role
We are seeking a competent, compassionate and patient-focused Medical Doctor (Post-NYSC) to join the Consulting Doctors team. The successful candidate will provide quality clinical care, conduct patient consultations, support emergency management and participate in minor surgical procedures.
The ideal candidate must possess sound clinical judgment, practical experience in general medical practice, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient and patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient consultations, clinical assessments and physical examinations.
- Obtain accurate medical histories and document patient information appropriately.
- Diagnose and manage common medical conditions within the scope of practice.
- Develop treatment plans and prescribe medications in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
- Monitor patients' progress and provide appropriate follow-up care.
- Participate in minor surgical procedures and basic surgical interventions, with appropriate supervision where required.
- Perform wound suturing, incision and drainage of uncomplicated abscesses, wound debridement and dressing changes.
- Perform basic clinical procedures, including catheterisation and nasogastric tube insertion, where indicated and within the practitioner's competence.
- Support emergency care, initial stabilisation and basic resuscitation of patients.
- Request and interpret relevant laboratory tests and diagnostic investigations.
- Identify critical or deteriorating patients and escalate appropriately to the Medical Director or relevant specialist.
- Participate in ward rounds and review admitted patients.
- Make timely referrals to specialists when necessary.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential medical records, including consultation notes, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures and patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and their relatives on diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, preventive healthcare and lifestyle modifications.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, consultants and other healthcare professionals.
- Comply with hospital protocols, infection prevention and control standards, patient-safety requirements and professional ethical standards.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews and continuous professional development activities.
- Maintain respectful and professional relationships with patients, colleagues and hospital management.
- Perform other relevant clinical duties assigned by the Medical Director.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a recognised institution.
- Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
- Valid registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Current MDCN practising licence.
- Post-NYSC clinical experience in a hospital, clinic or comparable healthcare setting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of general medical practice, patient assessment and clinical management.
- Practical experience in minor surgical procedures and basic clinical interventions.
- Ability to assess, stabilise and appropriately manage common emergency presentations.
- Strong clinical documentation and medical record-keeping skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Willingness and ability to reside within the hospital premises in Onikolobo, Abeokuta.
- Availability for full-time, on-site employment.
Professional Registration and Certifications
Mandatory:
- MBBS degree.
- Evidence of NYSC completion.
- MDCN registration and a valid practising licence.
Added Advantage:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Additional training or certification in emergency care, wound management or minor surgical procedures.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a post-NYSC Medical Doctor with hands-on clinical experience and exposure to general outpatient consultations, inpatient care, emergency management and minor surgical procedures.
The candidate should be comfortable performing procedures such as suturing, wound management, incision and drainage, catheterisation and basic emergency interventions, while recognising the limits of their competence and escalating complex cases appropriately.
Strong emphasis will be placed on clinical competence, communication, patient relationship management, professionalism, teamwork and the willingness to reside within the hospital premises.
Compensation and Benefits
