MD or DO with Pennsylvania State medical license
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
Patient-centered commitment to excellence
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Hospital-based medicine experience preferred but not required

Job Duties:
The Medical Director oversees the programmatic quality and integrity of the hospital’s Internal Medicine services. He/she plays a pivotal role in optimizing the overall clinical care of the hospital while also providing clinical care to patients. The Medical Director will also work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to address the quality and regulatory requirements of the clinical team.
Partners with physiatry and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to provide comprehensive care to the patients. He/she will advance the hospital’s position as the inpatient rehabilitation hospital of choice and provide high level care resulting in excellent patient experience.
Establishes strong relationships with other specialists in the market area to make them aware of the benefits and the criteria for inpatient rehabilitation. Since a patient’s opportunity for inpatient rehabilitation is dependent upon referrals from other specialists and acute care providers, the Medical Director’s role in educating other clinicians and developing confidence in the hospital’s services is critical to the hospital’s success and patient access to appropriate services.
Develops a known and visible presence within the hospital with a reputation for being accessible and approachable among the staff, patients and families. The Medical Director will balance clinical care with administrative opportunities to support the needs of the patients by providing onsite leadership, regulatory oversight, and operational guidance.
The duties will include providing initial and follow-up general medicine consultations for the rehabilitation of patients as requested by the staff. Consultation volume may vary, but on average, approximately 1-2 new consultations per day, and then additional follow-up visits. Consultations should be performed within a 24-hour time period. Common requests include providing recommendations on managing the patients’ chronic medical conditions as well as any acute medical changes that are recognized by the patient or staff.
Encompass Health hospitals are extremely busy with high patient volumes – Encompass Health has its own well-trained outreach teams that identify appropriate inpatient rehabilitation candidates from surrounding areas.
