Job Description

This is a professional position of a highly complex nature involving the direction and coordination of the medical program of the primary care clinic. The work is performed independently with the clinic oversight provided by the Vice President of Clinical Affairs. Administrative supervision is provided by the program Administrator . The Medical Director must operate in accordance with the terms and conditions of the various contracts and grants providing for funding and projects.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or the Committee on Hospitals of the Bureau of Professional Education of the American Osteopathic Association, or Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners or the National Board of Osteopathic Examiners or the New Mexico Medical Board.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment:
• License to practice medicine by the State of New Mexico with ability to obtain admitting privileges and active staff membership at local hospital, if applicable.
• DEA license and New Mexico Controlled Substance Registration (CSR).
• Medicare PIN and UPIN numbers.
• Medicaid number.
• Have or be able to obtain BLS/CPR or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. If you are assigned to a center with ACLS medications and/or equipment, you must have ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. Certification must meet the requirements listed in the document “BLS / CPR / ACLS & First Aid Training Resources” posted on Staurolite. It is your responsibility to keep your certification current at all times.

• Board certification in either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine strongly preferred.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment:
• New Mexico Board of Nursing license with certification as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Clinical Nurse Specialist / Family Practice or Certification from the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners.
• DEA license
• New Mexico Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
• Medicare PIN and UPIN numbers
• Medicaid Number
• Have or be able to obtain BLS/CPR or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. If you are assigned to a center with ACLS medications and/or equipment, you must have ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. • License from the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners and/or from the New Mexico Osteopathic Board as a Physician Assistant.
• Collaborative Physician Assistant Licensure in New Mexico
• DEA license
• New Mexico Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
• Medicare PIN and UPIN numbers
• Medicaid Number
• Have or be able to obtain BLS/CPR or ACLS certification within 30 days of hire. SCREENING REQUIRMENTS

• According to PMS Human Resources Policy 205.006, “Healthcare Personnel Testing & Immunization Requirements,” this position must comply with required testing and immunizations. Testing and immunizations including TB, Hepatitis B (consent or waiver), Tdap, MMR, and Varicella, will be available at the employee’s PMS health center. Influenza vaccines will be required according to dates set by the CDC and NMDOH.

If assigned to the Checkerboard Area Health System, this position requires successful completion of an initial post-offer of employment:
• Criminal Records Check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Travel by car, bus or airplane may be required associated with attendance at conferences, meetings and other duties carried out at distant locations in and out of state. Some overnight travel may be required.

• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat/kneel, to perform duties on a daily basis is required.

• This position requires the operation of office equipment, including computers. Adequate hand, wrist, and fine finger movement is required to manipulate equipment.

• Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Position requires hearing ability in order to hear / talk with internal and external contacts face-to-face and to receive information over the phone.

Presbyterian Medical Services (PMS) is the successor to the United Presbyterian Church's Medical Mission work in the Southwest, which began in 1901. In 1969, a New Mexico based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation was formed to ensure continuation of the mission to provide health care services to the underserved communities throughout the Southwest.
