Medical Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and team-oriented Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in a patient-centered healthcare environment. Working under the supervision of a physician, you will play an important role in supporting the care of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

As a Medical Assistant, you’ll help prepare patients for appointments, assist with procedures, perform clinical tasks, coordinate referrals, and keep patient information accurate and up to date. You’ll work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and clerical staff to help ensure a smooth and positive patient experience.

What You'll Do

• Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with patient care, including examinations, preliminary assessments, and medical procedures.
• Prepare patients for examinations and treatments while providing compassionate, professional care.
• Obtain and document vital signs and perform clinical testing, including EKGs and pulmonary function tests (PFTs).
• Collect and process specimens, including urine and blood, as ordered.
• Accurately document patient information, communications, test results, and other required documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Complete and process required forms and reports, including disability forms.
• Coordinate patient referrals, communicate appointment information, and follow up on specialist reports.
• Support pre-visit planning, chart preparation, and follow-up related to testing and referrals.
• Help maintain efficient patient flow and contribute to a positive, collaborative healthcare environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification required through RQI.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional, courteous, and patient-focused approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to learn and use electronic health record systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Medical Assistant certification from a New York State-licensed school.
• Previous experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting.
• Experience using an electronic health record (EHR) and basic office software.
