Salary: $17.57 - $26.35 Depending on Qualifications
JOB PURPOSE: The Medical Assistant/Program Assistant will be responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to ensure quality patient experience. The Medical Assistant/Program Assistant will support Weight Management providers and patients and Health Builders Programs by providing administrative support and clerical duties for the assigned programs, department, and its varied operations.
The Medical Assistant/Program Assistant works with general supervision and review, and any work problems involving departures from standard policies, interpretations, or procedures are reviewed with the supervisor for resolution.
The primary goal of the El Rio Health Medical Assistant-Program Assistant is to support El Rio’s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions.

Essential Job Functions:
• Prepares patients for Medical Weight Management visits by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviews and records medical history, takes vital signs, and confirms purpose of visit or treatment.
• Organizes and schedules appointments.
• Enters documentation for medically integrated Health Builder programs.
• Assists with referrals and navigates patients to appropriate Health Builder programs.
• Conducts biometric screenings and periodic biometric assessments events at clinic sites for patients and employees.
• Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, or test results in Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Completes all administrative and non-clerical activities which are received through NextGen and/or the Patient Portal in support of programmatic operations, completing all required documentation on these activities.
• Completes all Provider Orders with accuracy and in a timely manner.
◦ Ensures that the patient understands and verbalizes their understanding of the discharge instructions. Documentation of completed orders and actions taken by the medical assistant shall be entered into the patient’s EMR and submitted for processing within the defined time period.
• Generates revenues by recording necessary information of services rendered.
• Produces and distributes correspondence memos, letters, faxes, and forms.
• Receives and assist patients.
• Handles communications and calendars as assigned.
• Maintains patient confidentiality by controlling the environment and information being disclosed to authorized individuals ensuring HIPAA and corporate compliance requirements at all times.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.
• Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
• Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.

◦ Conducts basic research.
• Demonstrates the knowledge, understanding, and technical skills to complete all administrative and clerical duties, tasks, responsibilities, and assignments working with office equipment, operating systems, organizational programs and/or business software, such as:
◦ Completes outgoing recruiting calls for referral programs.
◦ Placement of provider referred patients.
◦ Provides administrative support to other staff members in the performance of their assignments and departmental operations supporting patients, visitors, employees, and internal/external clients or representatives.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Employees must maintain their skills proficiency with El Rio Health operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Two (2) year of experience in a clinical healthcare setting performing the essential functions of a medical assistant or equivalent education and experience.
• Two (2) years’ experience in an administrative or assistant role in a healthcare environment or equivalent education and experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
• A Medical Assistant certificate from an approved and accredited college or vocational training program.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
• Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.
• Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must be in compliance with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:
• One (1) year of working experience with i2i.
• One (1) year of experience in scheduling and checking in patients.
• Three (3) years’ experience in a clinical healthcare setting performing the essential functions of a medical assistant.
• Three (3) years’ experience in an administrative or assistant role in a healthcare environment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages.
