Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports the Physician and RNs with administrative and clinical functions in the practice. The MA is essential in chart preparation, assisting with patient visits, and communicating with the care team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties and tasks may be assigned.

Perform at all times under the supervision of practice management and within limitations established by law, regulations, or usual practice within the state.

  • Prepares charts in advance and day of patient appointments, which includes getting records and calling patients.
  • Ensures appointments are scheduled correctly.
  • Greets, receives, and rooms patients for appointments/procedures; conducts interviews with patients, measures vital signs, and records information.
  • Administers flu, pneumonia, Hepatitis B and other injections under the direction of the physician per individual state regulations.
  • Maintains nursing stations and examination areas.
  • Maintains patients rooms and stocks rooms and supply orders.
  • Checks voice messages, screens and returns telephone calls and sorts faxes.
  • Scans documents in charts.
  • Schedules radiology and lab appointments, biopsies, IV infusions and referral appointments.
  • Reviews all lab and handling alerts.
  • Obtains authorization for prescriptions and procedures.
  • Monitors tasks in box daily, makes sure all orders are addressed and forwards completed tasks.
  • Follows up on record requests and pending folders.
  • Documents all phone calls and data for patient visit for rooming and vaccinations.
  • Pages/Calls providers with alerts when out of office.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Actively promote GUEST customer service standards; develop effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in team concepts and promote a team effort; perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required for the job.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Requirements include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of formal training program as nursing/medical assistant and/or comparable experience in clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Valid driver's license in applicable state. License must be maintained as current, without restrictions and good driving record.

Must have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); proficiency in USRC applications required within 90 days of hire.
