Pay Range:  The expected base pay for the position is $18-$30.65 per hour and may be increased based on other factors, such as language, certifications, etc.
Primary Function:
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports and assists the Primary Care and Nursing staff Departments in the care of PACE participants. The MA also assists with clinical and administrative services.
Duties include assisting nursing staff in the management of participants at the day center by handling phlebotomy procedures, obtaining initial vital sign data for identified participants, monitoring treatment room supplies and medication expiration dates.
It will be expected for the MA to be flexible and willing to assume tasks within the scope of practice, at the request of the Nursing and Primary Care departments.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide support and assistance to nursing and primary care staff as requested at the PACE Center.
- Perform, record, and report to nursing: vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration stats) blood glucose and weights for identified participants.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures at PACE Center and at home visits as requested by nursing.
- Assist with EKG procedures.
- Assist with medication administration, including insulin administration, under the supervision of Nursing.
- Report observations and assessments to Nursing or Primary care.
- Provide home visits to identified participants: administer pre-filled insulin and/or pre-filled medications including eye drops and topical ointments; and perform simple dressing changes as requested by Nursing.
- Participate in the UESP QAPI Program, evaluate Medical Assistant services; and participate in the development and implementation of QAPI interventions.
- Monitor medical supplies and medications monthly for expiration dates, and discard expired medications per protocol.
- Monitor medical equipment for inspection stickers and dates.
- Organize and stock treatment rooms and supply storage areas.
- Maintain inventory for medical supplies, monitor use, and re-order as needed.
- Conduct monthly audit of emergency medical cart with sign-off documentation.
- Monitor and document med refrigerator temperature log.
- Maintain monitoring logs for medications, medical supplies, and medical equipment expiration dates.
- Carry out responsibilities per the Nurse Manager.
- Comply with PACE Policies and Procedures regarding competency requirements.

QualificationsMinimum Basic Knowledge:
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Solid organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Able to transcribe data.
- Can work within a multi-cultural team environment.
Experience &

Qualifications:
- Certification in Medical or Clinical Assisting.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with geriatric population
- Bi-lingual in English, Spanish, Haitian, and Cape Verdean a plus
Independent Action:
Clinical care per scope of practice, oversight of treatment areas for supplies and organization, maintain audit logs
Supervisory Responsibility:
None
Define Access Level to PHI:    Level 3: Authorized to access only certain limited categories of PHI and certain limited sections of the UCHC patient’s medical record that are necessary to perform job duties, whether treatment, payment or operations duties.  Staff in this category level should confine the use of PHI to the minimum necessary required and should not access or read parts of the medical record not needed to perform assigned duties.
