A typical day as a Medical Assistant includes a variety of tasks to coordinate patient care and support providers in a clinic setting. You’ll manage medication authorizations, administer vaccinations and perform point-of-care testing , or testing near the patient care site. MA's also prepare patients for exams and treatment using skills such as administering injections, blood draws and EKGs.

Uncertified Medical Assistants will be considered and will have 12 months to become nationally certified once employment begins. Uncertified Medical Assistants will have access to Medical Assistant certification study material and Banner will pay for the cost of certification. Banner University Medical Group is our nonprofit faculty practice plan associated with the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine in Phoenix and Tucson. Our 1,100-plus clinicians provide primary and specialty care to patients at highly ranked Banner - University Medical Centers and dozens of clinics while providing mentorship to more than 1,200 residents and fellows. Our practice values and encourages the three-part mission of academic medicine: research, education and excellent patient care.
This position is responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care, as well as, implementing and evaluating direct patient care. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience.
CORE FUNCTIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Completion of a Banner approved medical assistant training program that also meets state-defined regulations.
Active Medical Assistant Certification is required. BLS certification required upon hire. Active Medical Assistant certification Registered Medical Assistant (RMA from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from National Health Career Association (NHA or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software. Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
