Medical Assistants (MA) in the medical office setting supports providers by delivering direct and indirect patient care in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner. The MA may assist with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. The MA functions within their defined scope of practice (based on office type clinic/HOD), under supervision, and in alignment with Mercy's mission and standards of care.

Make a Difference Across Multiple Specialty Clinics

Mercy is seeking a flexible, patient-focusedMedical Assistant to join our Clinic Float Pool team. In this PRN role, you'll have the opportunity to support a variety of specialty clinics, work alongside exceptional providers, and develop a broad range of clinical skills while helping deliver outstanding patient care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Medical Assistant who enjoys variety, adapts well to different environments, and thrives in a collaborative team setting.

What You'll Do

  • Welcome and room patients while obtaining and documenting vital signs
  • Collect and update patient medical histories, including medication reconciliation
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during office visits and procedures
  • Perform basic clinical testing, including urine dipsticks, glucose checks, EKGs, and other approved duties within competency
  • Reinforce patient education as directed by providers or nursing staff
  • Maintain exam room cleanliness, stock supplies, and prepare rooms between patients
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up appointments
  • Support front office workflows, including phone calls, patient check-in/check-out, scheduling, scanning, and fax management
  • Accurately document patient care in the electronic health record
  • Follow all infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice in accordance with Mercy policies and applicable regulations

Float Pool Coverage Areas

This position supports multiple specialty clinics throughout the South St. Louis County area. Float assignments may include:

  • Urology
  • Pulmonology
  • Sleep Medicine
  • Oncology & Hematology (Sindelar Cancer Center)
  • Breast Surgery
  • Neurology
  • OB/GYN
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Additional Mercy specialty clinic locations as needed, including the Kirkwood area

Successful candidates will enjoy working in a variety of clinical environments and collaborating with multiple specialty teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Medical Assistant certification or related healthcare experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different providers, workflows, and clinical settings
  • Comfortable using electronic health records (EHR)

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • At least 6 months of clinical experience preferred; outpatient or specialty clinic experience is a plus
