At PCHC, we’re looking for a compassionate, empathetic Medical Assistant to join our integrated care teams at Hope House Health & Living Center in Bangor and Helen Hunt Health Center in Old Town. In this unique role supporting two clinics, you’ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality care and support to patients seeking mental health services. Schedule: Full-Time, Tuesday-Friday, 6:30am-5pm (Mondays + Weekends OFF)
Note: This role splits time between Hope House Health & Living Center (Bangor) and Helen Hunt Health Center (Old Town), typically Tuesdays & Thursdays in Bangor and Wednesdays & Fridays in Old Town.

Highlights of the Position:

  • Demonstrates empathy, compassion, collaboration, and appropriate clinical judgement in patient care.
  • Provides direct support to providers in delivering care and treatment to patients seeking mental health services and supports.
  • Conducts patient chart reviews for pre-visit planning, medication refills, and other clinical requests. Supports clinical desktop work.
  • Strategizes within care teams to effectively manage patient’s care.
  • Prepares and rooms patients for examination, treatment, and procedures. Maintains exam rooms, instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Administers prescribed medications and vaccines under the direction of the provider, including drawing of blood and processing of labs.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Engages and supports patients to ensure they feel heard, respected, and involved in their care.
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to improve the patient experience and clinic processes.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Evidence of Medical Assistant training including all the essential job functions, knowledge, skills, and abilities listed here in this job description, or MA Certification required.
  • Will have up to-date training and certification in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Health & Safety Institute. Must obtain within 2 weeks if not current at hire.
  • Initial and maintained Certification is highly encouraged and supported.

Preferred:

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants, or
    CMA- Certification by the AAMA, or
    RMA- Certification by the AMT, or
    CCMA- Certification by the NHA.
    Or prepared to certify within 60 days of hire.

PCHC, a non-profit organization founded in 1997, is the only Federally Qualified Health Center in the Greater Bangor area, Waldo County, and in the Jackman region. Its purpose is to ensure access to comprehensive and integrated out-patient health care services to those on MaineCare, Medicare and those both with and without insurance – regardless of their ability to pay. PCHC is recognized as a leader among the nation's Community Health Centers, and has been named an “exemplar practice” by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation’s leading health care foundation. PCHC practices are staffed by about 200 clinicians including medical and dental practitioners, mental health providers, physical therapists, pharmacists, and medical specialists. In addition, PCHC has a team of medical specialists who deliver a wide range of specialty services including allergy, gynecology, orthopedics, podiatry, dermatology and osteopathic manipulative therapy. All PCHC services are provided with a sliding fee scale based on income through its Affordable Care Program to make certain that everyone can obtain the healthcare services they need. About 7% of PCHC’s budget is funded by Federal operating grants.
