The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly adaptable and service-oriented Lead Medical Assistant to help launch and support Akido’s innovative outpatient primary care clinic in Rhode Island. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in supporting clinic operations from day one.

Working closely with clinical leadership, the Lead MA will support both front-office and back-office workflows while helping coordinate new technology-enabled care pathways, including asynchronous and AI-supported patient routing workflows. This role goes beyond traditional Medical Assistant responsibilities, we are looking for someone who thrives in a startup environment, leads by example, and is excited to help shape the future of primary care delivery.

The ideal candidate is clinically strong, highly organized, customer service-oriented, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a lean and rapidly growing clinic environment.

What You'll Do

  • Support day-to-day clinical and operational workflows within a lean outpatient primary care clinic
  • Perform both front-office and back-office Medical Assistant responsibilities, including patient registration, insurance verification, eligibility checks, rooming, vital signs, discharge coordination, and referrals
  • Help coordinate technology-enabled and asynchronous care workflows, including AI-supported patient routing processes
  • Serve as an operational “air traffic controller” to help ensure patients receive the appropriate level of care efficiently
  • Deliver a high-quality, professional, and compassionate patient experience
  • Assist with maintaining clinic operations, organization, inventory management, and purchasing of supplies
  • Help support clinic growth and operational excellence
  • Take ownership across clinical, administrative, and operational responsibilities.

Required

  • High School graduate or equivalent. Completion of accredited certified medical assistant training program required.
  • Medical Assistant Lead experience in an outpatient or primary care setting
  • Current Medical Assistant certification required (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or equivalent accredited certification)
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Experience supporting both front-office and back-office clinic operations
  • Experience with insurance verification, referral coordination, and patient access workflows
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and take ownership across clinic operations
  • Comfortable working in a lean, startup-style setting with evolving workflows and responsibilities
  • Ability to work onsite during standard business hours
  • Strong customer service and patient communication skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence, professionalism, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Experience as a Practice Coordinator, or Practice Manager
  • Experience helping oversee daily clinic operations independently
  • Startup or high-growth healthcare environment experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Portuguese, or other languages preferred
  • Interest in healthcare innovation, technology-enabled care, or AI-supported clinical operations.
Hourly pay range
$26$28 USD
