Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of physician.
Maintains efficient patient flow during clinic hours by obtaining and documenting vital signs, reviewing medical, surgical, social, and family histories, updating medication lists, and accurately recording patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR). Prepares daily patient charts and scanning records, reviewing documentation, and ensuring all necessary reports and test results are available prior to patient visits.
Assists the Mohs surgeon during surgical procedures by preparing patients and procedure rooms, setting up and maintaining sterile fields, organizing surgical instruments and supplies, applying pressure dressings and standard bandages, and providing post-procedure patient care. Maintains accurate Mohs surgical logs and ensures all surgical supplies and equipment are prepared for daily procedures.
Maintains clean, organized, and fully stocked exam and procedure rooms by processing surgical instruments through cleaning, sterilization, and operation of the Ultraclave (autoclave) in accordance with infection control standards. Orders and maintains medical and surgical supplies while adhering to OSHA, infection prevention, and safety guidelines.
Provides clinical and administrative support by answering and returning patient phone calls, communicating test and pathology results as directed, responding to MyChart messages, managing EMR work queues and in-baskets, scheduling appointments and surgical procedures, processing prescription refills and prior authorizations, and completing patient assistance paperwork as needed.
Maintains a safe, secure, and confidential work environment by following established policies, infection control procedures, and applicable legal and privacy standards. Demonstrates a commitment to quality patient care, patient safety, efficient surgical workflow, and may assist with training new employees as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. Associate Degree and/or Certified/Registered MA preferred. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or previous Medical Assisting experience required.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 2 to 5 years MA or other relevant experience preferred; Practice in different care settings (eg. Primary care, Specialty, EMT, etc.).
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR and scheduling systems) required. Strong verbal and social skills to facilitate working respectfully with patients, physicians, visitors, co-workers, and drug reps in person or by telephone required. Ability and willingness to travel to other physician offices as requested or needed. Experience assisting with surgical procedures, including sterile technique, suture removal, wound care, dressing application, and instrument processing, is highly preferred.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Certified/Registered MA preferred. Must successfully complete skills orientation. BLS certification required.
