Day - 08 Hour (United States of America)Provides appropriate care to patients and their families in a compassionate and professional manner, within the Medical Assistant (MA) scope of practice as outlined in University HealthCare Alliance (UHA) policies and procedures. Assists the patients care team in implementing the medical plan of care.
MA II – Performs MA I duties, serves as job expert in assigned areas such as supporting ancillary and/or specialty professionals (e.g., assist Nuclear Medicine Technologist and/or Sonographer with diagnostic testing), provides training for others, and takes on additional special on-going assigned duties.What you will do: - Rooming:
- Apply time management protocols to keep providers on schedule & minimize patient wait time.
- Consistently performs rooming procedure and follows rooming standards to ensure patient is fully prepared for the provider.
- EPIC environment: review charts for open orders, needed preventative services, and Quality Measures
- Assists the patients’ care team in implementing the plan of care for the patient in a collaborative and professional manner.
- Notifies patients of possible wait times throughout their time in the clinic setting as well as updating the provider wait times.
- Follows clinic protocols for late patients.
- Patient Care/Back-Office Procedures:
- Performs and assists providers with routine and/or specialized clinical procedures within the MA scope of practice and department policies, in a timely manner.
- Administers ordered medications and vaccines in a safe, accurate, professional and timely manner following policies and procedures which includes consistently verifying medication with a licensed person prior to administration.
- Performs routine screenings and places orders for patients who are due for quality measures and completes point of care testing in a timely, accurate and efficient manner according to policy and procedure.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Accurately collects and transmits information between the patient and provider in a courteous, respectful and professional manner, within MA scope of practice; refers care outside of the MA scope of practice to the appropriate licensed personnel.
- Communicates updates to patient requests.
- Documents appropriate information clearly, accurately and in a timely manner, according to department and UHA policies and procedures.
- Administrative Duties:
- Performs administrative duties in a timely, accurate and collaborative manner according to policy and procedures within the MA scope of practice, including, but not limited to:
- Retrieves and processes voicemails and incoming faxes and refills.
- Prepares forms and manages prior authorizations throughout the shift.
- Epic environment: Assists providers with their in-baskets and open charts; monitor other MD and MA in-baskets when assigned.
- Supplies and Infection Control:
- Maintains exam rooms and nurses’ stations; stocks supplies, cleans and disinfects equipment and instruments after use on every patient.
- Transports specimens according to policies and procedures in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensures equipment is working properly, notifying the appropriate person of needed repairs in a timely manner.
- Collaboratively performs departmental duties to ensure OSHA, infection control and accrediting body compliance, including, but not limited to, checking refrigerator/freezer temperature, checking medication/supply expiration dates, autoclave sterility checks, departmental lab QA, in a timely, accurate and efficient manner according to policy and procedure.
- All other duties as assigned including department-specific functions and responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned and participates in organization projects as assigned.
- Adheres to safety, HIPAA and compliance policies. Education Qualifications: - High School graduate or GED. Experience Qualifications: - Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Training Program.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant. Skills and Abilities: - Verbal and written communication skills demonstrate courtesy, compassion and helpfulness in a professional manner towards employees, patients and patient families.
- Basic high school math, English aptitudes and legible handwriting.
- Basic Windows skills to include keyboarding, mouse movement and computer data entry skills to enter patient information.
- Organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology/anatomy and EMR systems.
- Ability to work with others in a flexible, cooperative and collaborative manner.
- Requires concentration to handle varying procedures and interruptions.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $28.29 - $36.07 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
